Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

EG - Thanks for setting up the Navy Dads site, and letting the girls play too:) You're married to a smart cookie :p Thanks again and God Bless!
  • Michele

EG - Thought I would give you an update. I have chatted the last two night with Wes :). He seems to be doing good, staying out of trouble (as he put it) lol. He says classes are getting rough now and he does nothing but study and iron! He says that they moved him from USS Franklin to the Cole and it is like being in bootcamp again, not much freedom except the weekends. I told him that it will be better when he goes to Pensacola because it seems like they have more freedom there. I gave him as much encourage as I could and let him know to stand tall because he is doing a great job! All I have for now and it was great to really talk talk to him this time :).

    God Bless, Michele

Thank you EG for your support! It is hard as a parent to hear disappointment and frustration from your children, it cuts right to the bone bee-lining to my heart. I agree that he did his time in BC and why drag it out in A-school, seems to me it would be counter-productive by breaking them back down after they have been built up to be proud of their country, navy, family, and self. I said to Wes, 'they don't want me to come up there and give them a talk!' Wes' response was, 'oh my god' . . .an inside joke between him and I lol. I hope I hear something from him today about how that test went and know how he is doing. I know he is counting down to Pensacola but thinks he won't go when scheduled because none of them have so far according to Wes :(. Evan said he would be done in 17 days? Does that mean he goes to fleet already?

    God Bless,
    Michele :)
  • Michele

I thought Evan was doing his classes this whole time? He is just now starting and his schooling will only be 17 days long? Maybe I read your comment wrong. . .

Thank you for your comment. It has been tough. Michael wrote us a letter and he is ok. He wrote his girlfriend and told her that at first he was so depressed that they were going to send him home. He talked to some vets at the VA and they convinced him to hang in there and he did. Now he is so thankful and proud of himself for his decision. In a way it makes me feel good that his life at home was so good that he truly realized it when he left. However, I am even more glad that he chose to pull himself up and continue on . We do not say "step-child" in our house. He does have a father who is very active in his life. However, when I married his mother he became mine also. We have a great relationship. I did not realize how much I would miss him and all of his friends being 'under foot' and having to cook for the lot of them. I do the majority of the cooking so I am having to learn to cook for a few instead of a house full of teenage boys. He calls me T and so do his friends...T feels a little lost without him and all of the extra kids coming and going. There is no loud 'thump thump' in the driveway or coming this way from around the corner. He has told us that he is playing the Bass drum in the band there. He is an accomplished drummer. He played the drums for our church and in the band at school. He is really good, even some of the older people in our church are missing his playing. We all know what a complement that is they, usually say that they play too wild or loud. Not him, he is awesome on the drums and I am so proud that he is able to give his God-given talent to the US Navy. Well, I have rambled on enough thanks for letting me say how I feel. I am so PROUD of him and all of the young men and ladies who are part of our military. I pray for them all daily and for all of the parents. I also pray for our country and for those who are not supporting our troops. I pray that God will open their eyes and that they will see that OUR children are fighting for them even though they fight against our kids..........Stephen

    Thanks and keep in touch

Thanks for filling in! I see things more clearly now. I'm glad to know the officers are required to go through BC again. I'm glad they have a little compassion! Mostly, I am truly blessed and thrilled that Morgan really hasn't had a tough time yet, at least not that he's admitting to. I know, largely, it's because of his gymnastic workouts. Most importantly, He's been leaning on the Lord more than I knew. That, has helped immensly. At heart, though, I'm still a Mom who was never suppose to have children. I have two very special miracles, I love them both dearly, and my heart is torn in two to think that my baby is out there getting yelled at for nothing. He is stronger than I thought! I'm so very proud of Morgan. This was not a decision made lightly. I support him 110%, encourage him the best I can and when I see him in his whites on 8/15, I'll be so excited and happy to see him I probably won't let go of him for a few!
  • Michele

YAHOO to 60!! We are getting there, word is spreading :). Thanks again for making this site EG, you are the best!

    God Bless,
    Michele :)
  • Michele

EG - Did Evan get to start class today? I know he has to be anxious to get started. Well maybe not with the beach and all the freedom lol mini vacation, yeah! Keep me posted. God Bless, Michele :)
  • Michele

More vacation :) . . .Is he becoming frustrated because of the long delay? I seen in a post of his where some friends of his already classed up, is he disappointed he wasn't with them? He seems like a very upbeat and energetic guy so hopefully his wait is almost over :)
  • Michele

I am happy for Evan and he takes all this waiting so well :). I haven't spoken with Wes in several days, I have decided no news has to be good news! Thanks for keeping up and supporting my sailor :). God Bless, Michele

Andy is doing well by his last letter dated July 10 He is part of ship 06 staff in Div. 940. He has a love/hate relationship with BC. He hates the place but loves what it's teaching him.
  • Haley

Hey Elmo. I love the site..you did a great job. I'm very proud of you too for making this thing. Take care and tell the family I said hey!
  • Haley

  • jeff

    thanks for having me...
  • Rick

So if I comment back to you directly, does it still get posted? I wasn't purposely being secretive about his position, but I don't want to potentially post it to the entire web. I'm not really sure how the whole secrecy and such goes in the military, but I don't want to get him (or me) in trouble. Know what I mean?
  • Sam Woods

well, she has already left.. as a matter of fact, her P.I.R is August 8th and I can not wait. As far as I have been told, she goes down to Pensacola for aviation mechanics mate or something like that. When she told me in her letter, she was using abbreviations and things like that, that I didn't understand. I was in the Marine Corps and the abbreviations are totally different. So, I am hoping that all goes well. I received a letter from her today and it was funny. She had said that she went and fired weapons and said that they made her go back on Friday morning and was calling her Rambo. Not sure what all that had to deal with but, i thought it was funny. I had worked with her on so many things before she went in so that she would have the upper hand on them all. She made ships staff and is now a mentor to one of the other girls which her R.D.C nominated her for all of it. So, I am thinking that it is all good news. She had such a hard time out here in the "real" world, with boss's putting her on the back burner and not recognizing the good things that she was doing, that now all the good stuff is happening, I am hoping that it is all what she needed to get the confidence that she was lacking here in the "real" world. take care, hope to hear from you soon....
  • Bob, Andy's dad

The abbrev. list forum sounds like a good idea. There will be a lot of moms and dads who will be learning a brand new language.
  • Lisa@ N4M

  • Cindy

Thanks EG! I figured you'd be out on the boat today. I'm guessing Cindy was pretty excited. If I remember correctly, you weren't expecting Evan home until around the 13th, or did I get him mixed up with someone else? Cindy's going to be one exhausted Mom, but I'd do the same thing! Enjoy your time with Evan.
  • Alan C Evans

Thank you !!! I also was searching thats when i found you. setting this up was a great idea!! Thanks again.
  • Alan C Evans

Thanks! I also was looking and thats when I found you. again Thank you!!!!
  • Rick

Hey EG, I have a possibility for another topic or room, or whatever you want to call it. How about a "things to do while on Liberty" page? Something the parents can use to find out what's available in, on, and near Great Lakes and the Chicago area. There's a lot of culture in Chicago, but some people might want to shy away from there, and just opt for a more quiet setting. What do you think? Local eateries might be nice also.
  • Rick

By the way, what do the ratings stand for? I got a little education this weekend, but not much. I know now, what the stripes stand for. Woo hoo!
  • Cindy

EG, why would you feel guilty about navigating around in a woman's world? We aren't overly emotional or anything like that are we? heehee. That's why I come to navy dads. More r r r r type feeling. Don't get me wrong, I love my N4M's site, but do you think they'd ever think about starting a fantasy football team?
  • Alan C Evans

Hey I was curious, How do you start a group? I would like to start one for MA's but not real sure how to go about it. Any info would be great!!
  • Alan C Evans

Josh is doing fine (thanks for asking ) he was deployed to Chinhae South Korea in December this year, his wife joined him in March there doing great. Thanks for the advice on the group.
  • Cindy

Hey NavyDads Admin. You're up late! Trying to get Cindy set up on her Yahoo Fantasy Football acct? I admit, I couldn't figure it out. Maybe Cindy and I should get together and build a team based on names we like or the team colors! Just teasin. True, you can teach us only so much, we are stubborn creatures. I am getting so excited to see Morgan. We got a letter from him today. They were better than the last one we received, but his phone call was so much more positive. He's having to retest on live fire. They thought he was sleeping so they kicked him out. Letter said he was starting to stress a bit. In my letter, tonight, I told him they were probably doing it on purpose to see how he could handle it. He said he was for sure going to Iraq, then at the top of the letter he wrote, he may not be going. Men, constantly changing their minds. ;-) Gotta leave a message for your wife now. Have a great rest of the week.
  • Diane(Alyssa's Mom)

Thank you so much for your support.. Here is a question how much time do they get from boot camp til they go to A school. I am planning on going to Graduation...but she cant leave for a visit til after A school correct??
  • Diane(Alyssa's Mom)

how do i put my pic so people can see me...i cant seem to find the directions
  • Instructor Karla

    Thanks for the welcome. :)
  • Jeff

Thanks for the welcome I found this site thru my wife- she is a member of N4moms. Luis invited her to join fantasy football and he mentioned this site in his email! lol
  • Mark

Thank you for the site and the note, if you would like any help with the site please let me know as I would consider it an honnor to be a part of this site, to see some of my work look at our domain at www.bento.org for a work in progress.
  • Pat

    EG, thanks for the welcome:)
  • Cindy

Well...I never! I didn't notice that I had left her comment on my page until tonight. So, I did move it to her page. I know, you're thinking 'women, especially Cindy's'! Now, when did I say I could beat you in football?! However, I'm a big competitor, so I will try my hardest. May not know how to play, but I'll give it my best! I did figure out how to set up my own team last night. I felt real dumb. I am so looking forward to seeing Morgan, and I know Cindy is looking forward to Evan. She'll get to see him before I get to see mine. If you would please pass on this info to her as well, we did get a surprise call from him today. Thought my heard was going to drop because last weekend he said if we heard from him before the 12th, it was bad news. They ended up winning the Captain's Cup, so their reward was to call. He breezed through gas chamber, said it wasn't near as bad as he was expecting it to be. I think the only thing they have left is battle station on Monday. I know Cindy is not looking forward to Evan moving to California via Australia, so I have every intention of keeping in contact with her. How long will he be at home? N4M's would be a good site for her as there's a lot of Mom's that can support her.....since you men seem to think we cry wwaaayyy too much. heehee I will be sure to let Morgan know what you said.

  • Jim Lamp'l

Thanks for the welcome! Becka is a Petty Office second Class by way of her 7 years of Navy Sea Cadets. She has been through 2 boot camps, Search and Rescue at Marblehead, Petty Office Leadership Training in St. Augustine Fla., and I believe she couldn't possibly be any more prepared. I'm not worried about my little girl, it's my wife thats taking it hard. She's been crying on and off for days now. I finally layered it down to the fact " she won't be living at home anymore". Well, I'm trying to do what I can to keep her spirits up. Any Navy dads have any advise? Thanks, Proud Daddy Jim!
  • Pat

    Thanks for the welcome
