David thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads wouldn't feel guilty interacting in a woman's world. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Good luck and thanks again for joining. EG

David, think our sons are in same div/ship. Our wives have talked on Navy Moms. Know what you mean about C-Rats lol...now they're in a plastic bag...and flat! (MREs) I just retired after 25 yrs active army - 12 FA and 13 USAREC -HOOAH!
  • Jeff

Dave - got a letter from our son this week and he mentioned talking to your son. Guess a lot of the recruits are talking about their moms 'meeting' on navy4moms.com - jeffrey got b-day cards from "random strangers" and told his mom to thank them...and then he told her next time she does that to warn him...it is a little creepy getting mail from strangers! LOL
  • Jeff

Keep me posted - I am sure it'll all work out as it should. Btw-they pulled all of Jeffrey's healthy wisdom teeth too... the Army pulled mine in the back of a five ton at Yakima in the 80s-man times have changed! I didn't get sick in quarters time or vicodin...LOL
  • Jim Harper

Hi David, Thanks for joining Ohio Dad's. My name is Jim Harper, My son Kyle is currently attending the Naval Submarine Academy in Groton, Ct. I too am a retired Deputy Sheriff, collecting that check from PERS every month. Stay in touch,,,Jim
  • Jim Harper

Hey David, I here ya about OPOTA. Kyle was a grad and go also he was on a plane 5 hours after his PIR. It was a big hurry to get him to Groton, once there he sat for two weeks until he classed up, but now he is so busy he wishes he could sit around again. Sub school is really tough and then he has his A school which will last him until next November.
  • Jim Harper

Hey David, Kyle just called and said that he passed the major test for sub school and that he only has two weeks left with a final review test. He said that passing this test took so much stress off of him. They have lost so many guys during sub school, 3 last week alone. They are down to 44 from 81. He did get his ST rate. Ever figure out that snow shoveling problem?
  • Jim Harper

Hey David, has Doug gotten his orders since passing "A" school. Kyle just finished BESS today, but still has his "A" school left.
  • Jim Harper

Hey David, How's the snow shoveling going....LOL eyt to have any this year yet that needed a shovel. How's Doug. We went to Kyles BESS gradduation in Groton, Damn it's cold up there. stay in touch.
  • Jim Harper

Hey David, The same thing happened with Kyle. I told him at his BESS graduation to get his plane tickets for christmas that they were only 210.00. He called three weeks later complaining about the tickets costing him over 400.00. Kyle will be staying in Groton for the next 16 months for all of his sub training so we dont have to worry about him wondering around looking for his barracks....LOL even though they do move them eveytime they start a new school.
  • Jim Harper

I completely understand about the girlfriend, Kyle left on a monday afternoon and we did not see him until last night. He flys out sunday for Groton. He wont have leave again until June and thats when he will get his boat orders.
  • Jim Harper

We are getting ready to take Kyle to the columbus airport, he has to report back tomorrow morning, but he wants to be there well before that.
It was nice having him home even though he was M.I.A with a hottie in Dayton most of the time, oh well. The holidays were great, hope your family enjoyed them as well. I still have a senior at home so my house is not quite. Have a great day.
  • Larry

Just was reading some of the comments and seen your son is at Corry Station. My daughter is there waiting to class up. She's waiting for her sercurity clearence badge is the way I understand it. I wish it wouldn't take so long for her to start she is getting very anxious. Her rating is a CTT. Is your son still at Corry?
  • Jim McCord

Dave, you're a cop? I'm going on 37 years and looking forward to a 2nd retirement (well, 401 from my current county). Started out in Indiana. Our home email is gpacord@q.com Any time, Bud, any questions.
  • Larry

How does Doug like it? Is he happy so far with his choice? Samantha has been there since the first of October still no school. I'm sure once she gets started she will be much more settled with her decission. She really got excited when she talked with others even though they couldn't say much about anything, just seeing others progress got her interest.
  • Jim Harper

Hey Dave, I hear you got some snow...LOL. We have had Ice 4 times this winter, today we are saud to be getting some snow...but who lknows. Kyle is back in groton. I think that he is getting bored with all the schooling. How is doug doing?
  • Tony

Hey Dave, I think I may have met your wife at a Navy Mom's event at Bob's Evans today in Fairlawn. Were you there sitting at another table?
  • Tony

I wish knew you were over there. There as another Dad, Steve, there as well. We could have let the women sit together and we should have shared a table. I was starved so I was focusing on the food myself. Next meeting is in March. It will be at the Fairlawn/Bath Library and then we will head over to the Winking Lizard for lunch.
  • Robert S.

Thanks for the info David, my son was in boot camp during Christmas and we were planning on celebrating with him during PIR weekend. He ended up being grad-n-go and we got less than an hour with him. We wanted to wait and go down when he could leave the base if it is not to long. He called last night with a list of things he wants us to bring him. We will have to see how it goes.

I know your son will be glad to graduate soon. Have a safe trip to Pensacola. Are you driving down? We will be driving from Atlanta.
  • Robert S.

Hey David, congratulations on your son on completing “C” school. How was the trip to Pensacola? We are driving down to see our son this coming weekend for the first time. We had 20 minutes with him at PIR and that is all since he went in on Dec. 2nd. He just got Phase II liberty and we are finally going to have Christmas with him.
  • Robert S.

Thanks for the tips David. I know about the long trips. I have done many of them. That was a long one for you and you’ve got to do it again in less than two weeks. Fortunately for us the trip from Atlanta to Pensacola is not that bad. We will be going I-85 to I-65 to 29/113. Rudy Tuesday sounds good. We will do that one night.
  • Bill M

Thanks Dave for the quick return. Information is very helpful. Sure I may need more later. Sounds as if your son is off and running for a great career. Tell him thanks for the service and best of luck. Bill
  • clay H

considering that they dont have to leave the "ships" barracks to do anything they might not even know there is snow!
  • MarkM

David, how long was it before he finished C? CTI is so much different from other rates it is very confusing. With him going to language school the length of time is different, depending on which language they assign him. It could be 8 months or 2 years.
