Welcome to NavyDads.com Laron! I'm sure you'll find NavyDads as useful, educational and informative as I have. Please explore the site and make some new friends. Read the discussions and add your comments. Browse through the postings in the various groups or start a new one. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what she is going through...be sure to post them! In my experience someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the direction to find out. I'm blessed to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) just completed her enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Laron this is a great place to brag as well! So join in, get active, and be sure to let us know how Corinne is doing! Please remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors and the fleet in mind. On the right side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link for some guidelines as to what we should and should not talk about in a public forum.
As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your daughter is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos available in the Bootcamp Group as well.
As PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul
Laron,
So glad to see that you have joined us here at Navydads.com. I have talked with your daughter Corinne on here a couple of times through a blog that she posted on here. She seems to be a driven young lady that is worried that her parents think she has made the biggest mistake in her life. I tried to relay some of the feelings that my wife and I had when our oldest son Trevor joined the Navy 2 yrs ago, now just 2 weeks ago my Younger Son went and signed himself into the DEP program and has gotten a ship date for next July. This will put both of my Children into the Navy and serving thier country.
I know there are alot of questions that you may have and things that you are curious about. Might I be the first to say that anytime you have any questions send me a message and as soon as I get to it i will get back to you and either help you with the answer or try to point you into the right direction for you to find the answers that you want. I commend you and your wife for raising such a fine young lady and wish you all the best on Corinne and your journey into the Navy and give you all a big BRAVO ZULU.
When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit fathers that follow behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your daughters journey in the Navy. Thank Corinne for her service for me and thanks again for joining us.
Laron - just got another letter from Christina today. she says she not only knows Corrine, but they have become good friends and since both will be attending a-school at gl, plan on hanging out together. cool!
Laron - yes, but we will probably get there late. we are flying in to milwaukee, landing after 4:00. then it's get the car and an hour plus drive. we've gotten five letters so far and one call, which i wasn't around to take but my wife got to talk to her. yep, looking forward to more every day!
Laron - well that, hate to use the term, sucks about everyone being penalized, but i guess it's gotta be. (i always hated that in grade school when the teacher did that!) hopefully someone will get "squared away" (ie: grow up) before it's over. i know Christina has expressed some concern about the tests, but i'm sure they will do ok. let's face it, the vast majority pass or the system would break down. that would be a real bummer for anyone kept back two weeks though.
Laron - our last letter from Christina was dated almost two weeks ago. hopefully, like you say, no news is good news. thanks for bring us up to date. we will pray that Corinne will "sail" through the rest.
