Welcome Aboard!
My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.
My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.
My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Thank you for your genuine note. It has been interesting dealing with the empty nest syndrome and Not alot of contact with her. She turned 18 before boot camp and since boot camp and now she's in A-school, so she is spreading her wing's and making a life for herself and of course being out of dad's home she's busy studying and making friends left and right. I'm very proud of her but get little contact from her. I understand and encourage her growth but a call a week would be nice. I've talked your ear off to much already but sincerely thank you because now I have a place to call home!
Thank you E.G. Thank you for starting this site for Dads. I am on Navy for Moms quite a lot. I signed up on this site in the hopes that my husband would get involved too. I think it is important that Dads can ask questions too. It can't just all be us Moms.
I like helping Moms and Dads whose recruits are in boot camp/ or the Parents of new Sailors just starting (A)school. I am very grateful to all my Navy family on NFM's who helped me get through boot camp. I couldn't tell you who boot camp was harder on. I think that when our sailors go through boot camp, so do we.
I am looking forward to meeting Mom's and Dads on NavyDads
Thank you so much! My son Jon just left for boot camp almost two weeks ago. My wife and I have tried to educate ourselves the best we can with the military so we can better understand our son's endeavour that much better. After basic training Jon will begin A-school for Operations Specialist which is also at Great lakes. My wife and four other children will be visiting Jon March 18 to see him graduate.
I have an 21 year old son who will be graduating college this Spring- who will be attending law school next fall. I have a 20 year old daughter who is also in college. My 19 year old Jon is the one who just entered the Navy. I have a 10 year old son who in 5th grade and a 3 week old infant son! One big family and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Thanks to everyone who welcomed me so warmly. It is nice to find a site with so much information and support.
Kevin is currently a member of the NUPOC program, finishing his degree in mechanical engineering. The application and acceptance program for NUPOC was long and a bit intimidating, at times, but he saw it through and was inducted last spring. For now, he is headed toward the submarine service, as he was really impressed with his visit on the Nebraska.
I did not serve and there are many times I wished I had...but I could not be prouder of Kevin's decision to do so. His grandfathers both served, one as an F86 mechanic during Korea (based in Okinawa) and the other was a Navy corpsman, attached to the 1st Marines at Chosin Reservoir...both are hugely proud of Kevin.
I look forward to exploring the site, in detail. I am sure there is much for me to learn.
The Internet is truly an amazing thing... I Googled "Tiger Cruise" and was directed to the Navy Mom's site and figured if there is a Mom's site there probably is a Dad's site so Googled that and here I am.
I never was in the military having come of age during the end of the Vietnam conflict when most thing's "military" were not so popular. My eldest son enlisted after flunking out of a full scholarship paid college stint that lasted only about 6 months. He worked a few odd jobs, even McDonald's which was probably what motivated him to seek something better. He chose the Nuclear route and after Power School, his supervisors suggested he apply to the USNA which he did. He graduated in 2007. I am very proud of his accomplishment. Since his deployment to Bangor, he has married. purchased a home and has a baby on the way! Really grown up now!
Sorry for the tardiness of my reply...but thanks your input. I too figured that there must be a site for fathers after Alexandra's mother told me to check out Navy Moms.
In a letter from S.R. Alexandra (I like the title she has for the while), she says that she recently was put on Ships Staff. As expected, she didn't go into great detail.
Can you lend some insight as to what her duties would be in that role?
Thanks for the response. If you ever decide that you want to add items, let me know. I have a good contact that would love to be the official provider of logo'ed items.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome! NavyForMoms is a great site, but I'm glad to see you've created a place for Navy dads to come together as well.
Myself and the rest of my team handle all the social media for the US Navy- all 15 Facebook pages, the Navy Twitter account, and NavyForMoms.
Again, much thanks for letting me be a part of your community. I sincerely hope I can help answer any questions out there about people's sons joining the Navy.
Thanks for your comments I am so proud of my daughter for joining the Navy. It makes me feel better that there are other Dads out there like me. I also saw the Navyformoms site and was wondering if there was a Navyfordads site. Thanks
Thank you very much, and thanks also for your son's service. We seem to read and read and read trying to gather as much information as possible as well as the next step for him.
Thank you for the welcome.I am very happy I found this site where I can learn some about what my grandson is going through. It does make me proud he is serving his country.I do also think the Navy will guide him in the right direction.Which he is a pretty good young man anyway.Again thanks for making me feel welcome.
E.G. thanks so much for welcome to this site and forum. Since my son just left for boot camp at Great Lakes last week I really don't a lot about his experience yet but I am sure as time goes on I will a lot to share on the site about my son. He was in the Sea Cadets program for four years and also Air Force ROTC at his high school here in Oklahoma and he has wanted to be in the Navy since he was in grade school. Thanks again for the welcome!
Thank you very much. I am the person that is going to be heading off to basic training but wanted to join the page so that I could read and reply and ask some questions of my own.
Thanks for the welcome note. I am a little nervous, I went off to boot camp 40 years ago but it is a lot different when you send your son off to boot camp. Thanks for starting this site. Looking forward to talking to everyone & learning from ya'lls experiences.
Thank you for such a warm and heartfelt comment! I am touched by your thoughts and appreciate it so much. I read it to my son today as we talked on the phone. Last time for a while, as he has been hand picked to be on Det Alpha to be on of 4 Rescue Swimmers to fly onto the USS Shiloh for continued SAR missions while Atsugi stays more "down" as he says. Not sure how sensitive this is, so I am not sending this part out until they are away. But thank you for noticing Garrett's growth and determination to accomplish his goal to help and do something with the training he has been given. Support from this site has been a blessing and I thank you for continuing to keep this going. I hope that I have helped throught the rescue swimmer group and my various participation in the others. Gos speed to our Sailors! May God use the mightly and bring them back safely!
Thanks for the welcome E.G. I'm glad I get to be part of both N4M & Navy Dads. It's kinda awesome. One can never have too many friends nor too much information can they???
First and foremost thank you for your kind welcome. My wife left for boot on the 23 of march. I'm still in shock over the whole deal. I never really thought it would ever rely happen. I know what to expect and when for the most part. I'm just struggling with her not being here. Been married over 5 years and dated for quite awhile before that and have never been apart more than a couple days at most. Just kinda down in the dumps over the whole deal...I know we will get through it as so many before us have...however that fact doesn't make it any easier right now. :(
Actually my husband and I are both viewing the page. I've found this site is much easier to navigate than the other... and after our SR becomes a Sailor we will continue w/ this site. Thanks, Louie and Jenn
11 days till PIR~ HooRaah! He is doing very well. Right now we are consumed with our trip to Great Lakes... His DIV has 2 flags, hopefully more ;) Again, thank you...
E. G. thank you so much for what you do and what an inspiration this site is and has become to many. When I visit this site it is like keeping in touch with extended family. My father was a DI in the Marines, and my uncle was in the Navy, both during WW2. I was in the Army and the Air Force during the Vietnam conflict, and my brother was in the Naval resrve. My son is following in our footsteps by being in the Navy and how proud I am of him and his decision.
E.G. this site is a lifesaver but also has become very addictive. There is no way to express in words how much this site means to me.
Brian ,my son is going through battlestions at the time of this post. It is supposed to be from 8-8 starting this evening. We are anxiously waiting to hear from him. My wife is a nervous wreck and of course we can't wait to see him again. It will be a shorter time than we would have hoped as he is flying out early Saturday morning, but we will squeeze every minute out of it. Would you say a prayer for Brian and the other recruits in his division 921. I know they will be alright, but it doesn't hurt to get extra help.
Iwill keep you posted as soon as I hear from my sailor.
I have a picture of Brian being sworn in with other recruits, that would fit right in with the tribue video "Do I make you proud" I put your video on my facebook so everyone could se how precious our military family is.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Thanks for creating this site as well! I have been to NavyforMoms site. I'm actually here because my son is going to be joining. We are meeting the recruiter again on Friday. My sister is a Chief stationed at Great Lakes as an NC. I know she comments on NavyforMoms so I am going to mention this site to her. She has a lot of great information and is willing to share it.
Thank You all for the warm welcome! this a great site, Ive just started to take a look around it and I like what I see. A lot of questions have been answered this a great resource for us Navy Dads, Great Job!
EG Thanks for the comment. Glad to be aboard. however I was a navy brat who opted for the Air Force. Just like land a little more plus we were getting married. Tow of my sons friends are also in the Navy one is on the USS Ronald Reagan and they were close in April but did not see each other.
You are right...There is was not a site for Navy Dads.
EG. Danke. I am glad to see that this site is here. Any suggestions on where to find info on corpsman school (Michigan ?). Also, can anyone recommend a good irish pub in the city? Also, is the Pritzker Military Museum worth the visit when we visit during graduation weekend? Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much, E.G. Wonderful job with the website and providing an invaluable source of information for many Navy families. I very much appreciate your efforts...as I am sure many do!
Thank you E.G. This site wouldn't exist without All of your effort in putting it together.
This time next year Brian will be knockin on the door that has a big 20 yrs on it. He still doesn't know for sure if door 30 is in his future. He saved up and bought a couple fixer upper houses in Virginia Beach and worked his tail off renovating them and now he has tenants that have just about paid off his debt incurred from the bank when buying them so he's not sure if he'll still want to be a landlord (so many things get broken) when he's eligible to get out.
I told him he should be glad to have a permanent job, even though it does mean having to spend time out at sea but he really like being home with his two daughters and his wife. Have to wait and see.
I'd like to thank everyone here for the warm welcome. It's nice to know that someone is always around here if a parent needs some help just to talk to somebody.

Date: Monday, June 20, 2011, 6:53 PM I am Navy Gold Star Mom of EOD1 Joseph Adam McSween , KIA April 6, 2007 in Hawijah, Kirkuk, Iraq. On June 15, 2011 I was on my way to Morris, Illinois for the Illinois Freedom Run Event held at the Middle Eastern Conflicts Walls, while driving through Coffee County, Tennessee toward Nashville. There was a very bad rain storm and my car hydroplaned from the west bound lane of I- 24 to the east bound lane and a quarter of a mile off the interstate into some trees. I am ok accept I have to have surgery on my left ankle , however, my car was totaled and I have only liability insurance because my car was eleven years old and paid for, I now do not have a car. I am on disability so I do not have the income to buy another car. I do not have any family to help me out so all I know to do is put my information out for all, incase there just may be some one or group that might could help me. I do not own anything that I could sell or use to get any kind of load nor do I have the income to make loan payments. I do not event draw enough money a month to pay for all of my medication. The volunteer work I do and the events I go to, to honor my son and others is what get me through each day and with out a car I will be confined to my apartment. So I hope one of your groups or maybe some other group or person you may know of will be able to help get another car for me. It is very hard for me to send out this request, but I have to do something and there are two answers by sending this request, yes or no, however, if I don't send out the request there is only one answer which is no.
I have sent this email to many in hopes that you will also send it out to any group that you know might be able to help me. Thanks to all of you for your help.
Although I did not know this lady personally,I feel compelled to write a sorrowful response on her son's loss.I can't imagine what it was like and pray that it does not happen to my son. I would also like to add that I will be contributing to the effort to help her in her time of need.
Sincere Regards,

Thank you for all you have done with Navy dads it has helped my family undrestand a lot more about how everything in the Navy works. My son graduates from Great Lakes on July 29 and my daughter who is 15 is going to graduation. I am told she has to have a goverment issued ID to get in the base. She cannot get her drivers permitt until December. What type of ID do i need to for her? I hope you can help find the answer to my question, and thanks again for all you do with Navy dads it is a great help.
