Thanks, like I told Jim, I did get the welcome comments back in March, and I tried to reply back and for some reason it didn't work right, or I screwed it up.... Nice site, I enjoy it, and I've gotten good information that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I'm a proud Sub-vet, and even more proud that my son is giving it a shot, he wears the uniform well; besides, now I have access to the REAL shirts, hats, stickers and other NEX stuff to show our pride in the USN. :)
  • Chris Dowless

Thanks Paul. Very good info too, for anyone preparing to take a trip. I'm looking forward to being allowed to go this year.
  • Steve Troutman

Thanks very much Paul. Read the OPSEC info, and greatly appreciate the welcome.

I want to thank you for all your support you have given me. Although I am so excited that my grandson joined the Navy, I am equally excited about the support I have got from several dads on this site. This site is so informative and helpful, that I told my daughter about joining and she was so happy s well. She just signed on as a NavyMom and also expressed her delight on the support she has also got from the members on this site. Again! I was to express my sincere thanks to you and all other dads and grandfathers who have welcomed me to NavyDads.  Proud Grandpa In Longmont, CO

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! My son, Brian, joined in 1992 and is now a Chief. He has cruised on the Roosevelt, Kitty Hawk, and The Eisonhower. Aviation ordnance is what his job duties are. There have been good times and bad times but, that is life in the military and in civilian life. He will have 20 years in October 2012 and so far is on the undecided list for ten more. The way jobs are these days he might be better to go for 30, but he really misses his children and his wife a lot when out.
I wish I had found this website sooner because there have been times when My wife and I sure had some worries with him over there.
He is in the VF-102 F-18 fighter squadron and currently is teaching the new incoming AO men the ins and outs of their job.
Once again, thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to being an active member of this great website.

This is a copy of the message explaining what happen on Wednesday around 5:48 p.m. Central Time.

    Date: Monday, June 20, 2011, 6:53 PM
I am Navy Gold Star Mom of EOD1 Joseph Adam McSween , KIA April 6, 2007 in Hawijah, Kirkuk, Iraq.
On June 15, 2011 I was on my way to Morris, Illinois for the Illinois Freedom Run Event  held at the Middle Eastern Conflicts Walls, while driving through Coffee County, Tennessee toward Nashville. There was a very bad rain storm and my car hydroplaned from the west bound lane of I- 24 to the east bound lane and a quarter of a mile off the interstate into some trees.  I am ok accept I have to have surgery on my left ankle , however, my car was totaled and I have only liability insurance because my car was eleven years old and paid for, I now do not have a car. I am on disability so I do not have the income to buy another car.  I do not have any family to help me out so all I know to do is put my information out for all, incase there just may be some one or group that might could help me.  I do not own anything that I could sell or use to get any kind of load nor do I have the income to make loan payments. I do not event draw enough money a month to pay for all of my medication. The volunteer work I do and the events I go to, to honor my son and others is what get me through each day and with out a car I will be confined to my apartment.  So I  hope one of your groups or maybe some other group or person you may know of will be able to help get another car for me.  It is very hard for me to send out this request, but I have to do something and there are two answers by sending this request, yes or no, however, if I don't send out the request there is only one answer which is no.

I have sent this email to many in hopes that you will also send it out to any group that you know might be able to help me.        Thanks to all of you for your help.

  • Alex Galaburda

Thanks again !!! I really appreciate your help.

Can anybody tell me why my wife may have been rejected from Navymoms.com?
  • David Marse

    Thanks Paul,

The site looks great and I'm already posting questions. I can tell you something you already know.  Sometimes I feel so proud of what my son is doing, I'm afraid I'll burst.  I gently guided my son to the military because I felt it could offer things that I never could.  He decided on the Navy.  He is just finishing A-school and absolutely loves what he's doing.  He is an IT.

    thanks for the welcome,

    David

Hi Paul, thanks for the welcome and the work you do on this site! I'm a single proud mom of Chris, a SWO, who was commissioned as an Ensign May 2010 and on his  1st deployment on the USS Ramage home ported in Norfolk. He left 5/20/11 and was due to be back late Dec but is deployment has been unofficially extended 38 days.  I'm so disappointed he won't be home for Christmas but the most important thing is that he stay safe and focused. I've been a member of navyformoms for a few months and when I read about this site recently, I decided to check it out and I'm glad I did! I can learn and feel connected with both sites! Thanks again for your service to us through this site! Blessings, Chrisy

    Paul,

Thanks again for your welcome to the Navy family. I am really glad I have this site to rely on for information, and not just from what I know of the navy from my air force dealings. Both my wife and i are very proud to be Navy in laws! Looking forward to PIR 26 Aug. Please thank your son and daughter for their service for me.

    Best Regards,

Thanks for the links. I've already been looking at them since my son left for boot camp on July 26, 2011. Since then my niece is now wanting to follow and will be taking her ASVAB on August 8th. I've been showing her all the information this website has to offer. I understand no news is good news so I'm trying to be as patient as possible. Although with him being my only child I'm very anxious to get that first letter. Again thanks for the warm welcome.

Hey Paul, it's good to hear from you.  I figured you were off work and home today.  So many exciting things happening in Eric's life these days.  I'm so happy for him.  I'm sure you're really looking forward to his visit with his new bride.  And, Hawaii will be a pleasant change after being on the east coast for the last few years.  Glad to hear also that Kat is doing well and going to school.

I haven't kepted up very well when it comes to posting messages and keeping in touch.  I do keep pretty close tabs on the site though. I did notice the pic of Billy that you put in the recent video.... thank you!  I haven't chatted with Julie in over a year now.  Her son was discharged back in Feb. I believe and she hasn't been on-line much since then.

Billy is doing well on his first deployment.  He works alot with little time for rest or play while in port.  He did manage to make time to participate in a couple of MWR trips when they were in Singapore.  The Howard has been involved in the CARAT exercises in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.  I downloaded lots of photos and articles about the exercises and have put together a real nice scrapbook of this deployment for Billy.

I know you are a busy guy and thank you for taking time occasionally to keep in touch and of course for your consistant dedication to NavyDads.  I stay busy with work and at least two weekends a month have been devoted to making large batches of homemade jerky for the sailors of the Howard.  Everytime one of those jerky making weekends roll around, I ask myself how much longer I can keep doing this.  But, when I get those emails and letters from Billy's shipmates telling me how much they are enjoying the jerky, it regenerates my soul and gives me the energy to continue.  It's a labor of love and gratitute.  I've also sent pkgs. of phone cards and other goodies to them.  Awe, out of room!!

    Take care my friend!!

Hey Paul, I noticed on FB you were having a B-Day today.  Just wanted to take a minute and wish you a happy one.

Hope all is well with you.  Hope Kat is doing well and that Eric is settled and enjoying his tour so far in Hawaii.  Had a live chat with Billy this morning on FB.  They are in Pearl now and will be headed toward SD soon.  They covered a lot of territory on this deployment, so he should have plenty of sea stories to share with me when he comes home on leave.

Have a great one, my friend!!
