    Hey Paul,

Thanks for posting the link for the advancement results.  I'm going to have a very happy sailor this morning.  He made 2nd class!!  We chatted just yesterday about it after he saw the quotas and he was feeling really good about his chances this time.  I see that Eric made it as well... Congrats to him!!

Thank you for your welcome. I am a first time military father but long time military son/nephew/brother. Thanks for the reminder about security and safety, I appreciate it. I look forward to going through this site and am overjoyed that it exists. My daughter is on her first time sea duty on the U.S.S. George HW Bush (77). I am and have been a civilian all of my life with touches into DOD via contract, so I feel I will flounder for a bit, but am looking forward to the challenge of catching up!

    Thanks again for the welcome!

    Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for the time you took to make me feel better. It wouldn't be so tough on me

if Scott was cruising; but to hear he cried the entire first day breaks my heart. He wrote in his

letter (to his Mom) that he hadn't slept the first 48 hours. I had warned him about his biological

clock; but of course he didn't heed my advice. I told him so much about my every experience in

Basin training at Fort Hood back in 66 so at least he had an idea about the harassment and brainwashing

techniques so he would be aware. Obviously he was NOT ready and it hurts.

    Hi Paul,

I looked at Navy week in review Nov. 5 -11 but it didn't show me anything. It looked like a recruitment

video. Is there a place to see what they are going through from week to week. Scott told his mother that

the first week was basically paper work and second was supposed to focus on physical training. I would

love to know what he is up against because he is so...... out of shape. If paperwork has him scared, I

can't imagine what the P.T. course has in store.

  • David Kane

    Hi Paul,

I did find what I have been looking for. Please forgive my haste. Just another nervous Father. The part about being ready for the physical part? You have no idea how I tried in numerous methods to coax him to get prepared. Push ups. Do them every day and progress to more sets every couple of days. I have no clue how any young man (Scott) could enter the beginning of the rest of his life and not want to start out on top. Not the bottom to be subject to ridicule; but that's the road he chose.

  • David Kane

    Hi Paul,

I know what you mean and I have gotten off 2 (one very long) letters. I had been writing just a bit each day figuring the letter would eventually show up. Of course he writes to his mother. Remember the Bill Cosby standup (Himself) where the Father is so proud his boy has run for about a dozen TDs. They interview him after the game. "Hi MOM". I was proud though, not once did I use "I warned you"

  • Bob Calvert

Thank you Paul. I spent about a year after  my daughter enlisted figuring out what to do to support her. Little did I know that I would spend the next 7 years full time working to support our troops. It is an Honor!!

  • Bob Calvert

Cool  Thank you for doing that. I am sure it has made a big difference for many military families. I thought this was a blog when Troy suggested I go to your site. When I get back next week from being with the Kansas National Guard I will work on my profile here:) I am looking forward to being with soldiers I was just with in Afghanistan. We have been uploading their videos to  my youtube page for the past week. Thank you

Hi Paul! I signed on as Rialto, but then I thought I would change it to part of my name to be more personal – so I am Elizabeth now. Thank you so much for the warm welcome and for sharing your story about your son and daughter! Thank you also for helping to build this site, it is such a wonderful resource and community and I am glad that I get to be a part of it.

I'm new to Navy Dad's and don't know who to post this enquiry to.
I joined because my son is Navy and was looking for other parents that are coping with deployment to Afghanistan.
Today, my wife is asking why  I am being solicited for female encounters thru Navy Dads.
Please take steps to stop these emails. Thank you Dale Bort
  • Dale E. Bort

Thank you for your reply. Dale Bort

Paul, as a Dad of a son overseas on deployment  I have questions.
How do I  find other fathers of sons with my son. Is this allowed?
I want to know more about his living conditions and if I can do more.
Such as packages or blankets. We, his mother and I feel helpless and
want do something. We know he is with army and not on a ship.
Any advise or contacts? I hope this information does not break any rules
but I don't know who else to ask.

I appreciate your message and comments.  My son is a member of the P3 community and is currently an instructor pilot with VP30 in Jacksonville. While I am new to your site I have a few years in now as a Proud Navy Dad!  My Aaron went to school at NC State on an ROTC Scholarship and graduated in 2003 then reporting to Flight school as a young O1.  Since then he is now an O3, Iraq war veteran from VP45, and finishing in a few months his tour in Jacksonville.  I was searching for information on carriers (his next assignment) when I found your site.  How I wish your site was around back then!  Anyway I am very excited about NAVY DADS and looking forward to learning more about what our sons and daughters do in their service to our great country.

    Respectfully, James

After seeing the 3 Disc DVD NAVY SEALS BUDS Class 234 I now know what my Grandson is going through.  If he does not pass and get to be a SEAL, I will not consider that to be a failure.  Some people have stronger physical bodies than others and therefore all tadpoles will not make it.  The only failure would be in "not trying to do the best of what you are able to do in life".  I'm so proud of my Grandson, however it turns out.  My Grandson is one I would choose to be with in a fox hole in battle, he is so brave, kind and God-fearing & I love him so much.

  • Charles Hopper

Thank you, Paul, for the welcome.  Most helpful!  I'll go through all the links you provided.

I had a cousin in the Navy about 25 years ago, so have some familiarity, but plan to learn a lot more to support my son.  It's funny, when my son joined, I had to ask myself why I didn't go into the Navy Reserve 25 years ago instead of insisting on the Air Force Reserve.  After all, I lived in San Diego!  Guess my son is proving to be smarter than I was, because I always had an interest in the sea and instead went for the inland Air Force bases.

  • Jeremey Kelley

Thank you Paul for the message and yes this a very exciting, happy and proud yet lonely and painful time for my wife and I. Overall though my wife and I are very proud of our daughter for her courage and commitment. My wife is on the Navy Mom site and recommended this one to me and we are really glad to have these resources at hand to answer our many questions and concerns about our daughter. Thank you again for the welcome and talk to you soon, Jeremey kelley.

Thank you for this site. I was an ET on board the USS Portland LSD-37 from 77-81 and am so thankful for a site where prayer is valued. My Dad was on an LST in the So. Pacific in WW II, and my brother was on a plankowner SM on board the USS Tarawa, so the Navy is in our blood. My son Mike will be graduating Boot Camp on 3/9 and my wife and I will be there.
