Paul, I just read your post to me regarding my dad's passing.  It was so comforting to hear that you had watched the letters from home video, and then related it so well to what I am going through now.  Thank you!  It was very meaningful to me.  Brad

Thank you all very much for the welcome. I'm happy to have found this site since I don't have first hand info to rely on and it's been a great place to learn. I think I will be ok since I can understand the adventure as well as the challenge ahead of him and am hoping for the best. His mother on the other hand...well, let's just say he's leaving me a handful with to deal with there. She's a mom, she worries, not talking to him at least daily is an issue. But I will get her through it.

Thanks for the welcome Paul. My son's PIR is this Friday and he said in his last letter that they would be doing Battlestations on Monday & Tuesday. From what I have read about Battlestations it lasts for 12 hours. Can you clarify this for me and let me know when I could expect his phone call afterward? Thanks, Roger
  • Roger Adams

No problem Paul. I'm just an anxious dad wondering what the last week of boot camp will be like for my son. I just hope he does really well in BS21 & that I'm home from work when he calls. Thanks for getting back to me.

........... Paul,   please don't take personal offense,   as my comment was on the level of a constructive critique.   Who could know how thoroughly busy you are,   or want to?    As mentioned already,  no less than 8 rapid fire emails were sent me in quick succession and none fit my situation as all were offering some type of advise, tips, info for the new, uninformed first timer Navy dad.......   and not my situation,  so as to make me think that my 'profile' had not been read.   Sorry that your feelings were hurt.  I did not and do not require anything of you personally,  it was just a comment as a new member.    sorry that it was taken badly,  take it easy buddy and thanks for your quick response and desire to help.

Thanks for your welcome Paul.  Awesome site and I am enjoying looking around at everything here.  My son, Sam left today, the last of my 6 children but the first one to enlist and my wife and I are sad but very proud and excited for him.  Your site is helping us through our first day.  I am confident that he will do well-he served with us as a missionary to Bolivia in his teenage years.  He is used to following orders and living rough.  Thanks again.

  • Dave S

Hi Paul, Thanks for the warm welcome and the "getting started" links. I have a lot of reading to look forward to here on NavyDads. I have already found a ton of useful information here and I don't feel so in the dark anymore. You have much to be proud of with the accomplishments of both your son and daughter. This is all new to me and I'm so glad that you have this site up to help us out here at home. Plus I'll have a better understanding of what son is doing out there at boot camp. He just left here on the 4th.

    Thanks again,

    -Dave

Hi Paul, Thank you very much for the welcome. It is all a little intimidating, even though I grew up as an Air Force Brat. Sometimes I just kind of wonder if I'm just being a worry-wart. I'm glad I found the site, and will familiarize myself more with it.
