My son arrived at RTC 7/17....Did not think I would be on pins and needles so much waiting to hear from him, besides the 30 second "I'm here" call. Anyone else waiting to find out what Division there family member is in?

My son shipped 7/17 also. His recruiter got his mailing address & Division the next day. His recruiter has been very helpful.
Ship 2 Div 944
JERRY, THE FIRST 4-5 DAYS ARE P-DAYS (PROCESSING DAYS), PART OF WHICH INCLUDES TAKING WHAT YOUR SON BROUGHT WITH HIM AND BOXING IT UP TO MAIL HOME. IT IS A VERY NO-NONSENSE GET-THE-STUFF-MAILED-BACK BOX. THERE SHOULD BE A FORM LETTER, SUFFERING HEAVILY FROM REPRODUCTIVE DEGENERATION, IN THE BOX WITH YOUR SON'S CLOTHES. HIS MAILING ADDRESS WILL BE HANDWRITTEN ON THAT FORM. THAT SHOULD BE IT FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS.
MY SON WILL WRITE EVERY CHANCE HE GETS. THAT CONSIDERED, THE FIRST LETTER CAME IN WEEK 3. HE JUST FINISHED WEEK 5 - AND WE RECEIVED HIS 3RD LETTER A FEW DAYS AGO - IF THAT TELLS YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE FREQUENCY OF MAIL YOU MAY RECEIVE. THEY ARE ALLOWED TO WRITE HOME DURING "HOLIDAY ROUTINE", WHICH IS SUNDAY MORNINGS.
MY SON GOT AWARDED TWO 15-MINUTE PHONE CALLS IN WEEK 3 OR 4 FOR GETTING 100% ON SOME TEST (HE DIDN'T SAY WHAT THE TEST WAS). HE HAS BEEN ABLE TO MAKE 1 OF THOSE CALLS SO FAR.
LIKE JIM SAID, YOU CAN WRITE AS OFTEN AS YOU LIKE. I HAVE A LETTER OUT EVERY DAY BUT SUNDAY, AS THERE IS NO MAIL PICK-UP. YOUR SON WON'T CARE MUCH WHAT YOU WRITE. THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BEEN IN OUR CHILDRENS' SHOES KNOW THAT IT'S JUST NICE TO GET SOMETHING AT MAIL CALL.
Jerry hang in there the experience gets better :)
CLOSE... MY SON IS IN THE SAME BARRACKS (SHIP) BUT IS DIVISION 244. THEY ARE FINISHING WEEK 6 TODAY. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED AND GOOGLE EARTH THE BASE: THE "SHIPS" ARE A COLLECTION OF RECTANGULAR BUILDINGS FORMING A RECTANGLE AROUND A FOOTBALL FIELD-SHAPED GRASS AREA. THERE IS A WATER TOWER AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER. SHIP 14 IS THE BUILDING AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER AND RUNS NORTH-SOUTH. AT THIS POINT, OUR SONS AREN'T LIKELY TO CROSS PATHS, BUT IF YOU WRITE HIM, MY SON IS THE RECRUIT CARRYING THE DIVISION FLAG. MAYBE YOUR SON CAN TELL MINE THAT WE'VE "CHATTED." WRITING MY SON DAILY HAS MADE TIME PASS FAIRLY QUICKLY. BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, JERRY, YOUR SON WILL BE GETTING READY FOR "BATTLE STATIONS" AND YOU'LL PERHAPS BE GIVING ANOTHER NEW "RECRUIT DAD" A PEP TALK.

Well, finally got the box this week and the address....My son's Division is Ship 14 DIV 291...Kind of cool that he is from Arizona and ended up assigned to Ship 14 which is the USS Arizona..Any others with a family member in this division?
this is a great series of videos that let you see what your sailors are going through at RTC: http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/return-to-bootcamp
Our son is currently at Basic Training in Ship 14 Div 352. Anyone with a child in either Div 351 or 352, I have created a discussion group for us. Feel free to join in .

Hopefully the link works. It is a discussion under the group "Boot Camp."
Greg, thanks for sharing the link, I will have to keep checking on the fb page for the weekly updates. I won't ask you which one your son was. I'm guessing he's the one in the yellow shirt with short hair :). Glad your wife got a chance to see him. We got a real letter today, so that was a thrill for the family. He sent his girlfriend six. Some things never change.
Hi greg,
My son left out of Charleston also, but on July 24th. We live in Charleston, I am glad to see someone else from our area

My son shipped on July 18 one day before his 23 birthday. He shipped from Charleston WV and is in Ship 003 Division 354. We got our first phone call from him last Saturday August 3 and graduating Sept 20. We also got our first letter today. Cool thing is we went to the RTC website below https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand
Go to photos then albums and we found a picture of our son doing push-ups during PT
In the July 25, 2013 Album. They update photos every Saturday. It was cool to see him and of course gave his mom a good cry
