Navy Dads

For those of you that have sailors reporting to the fleet you'll want to send some care packages. If you don't know already, the postal service has flat rate priority boxes available. One of the nice things is the fact that they give a discount for FPO and APO addresses-- I just sent one to Eric that weighed 12 pounds and the flat rate charge was $10.95. For those of you that haven't spent all morning cramming stuff into a box for your son or daughter- that is a pretty good deal!

Also- both Kat and Eric have requested the same thing on theri respective cruises- they each decided galley chow was pretty bland after about 15,000 miles and each asked for hot sauce! It is the little things that makes our sailors connect with home!

You can also use those flat rate boxes to ship to any military base. I use them to send my son in GL snacks and food ~ not enough in Pre-BUD/s. Just make sure that they understand you are shipping to a domestic base so you get the flat rate!
Also, you can order the boxes online from USPS for free!
good point Lisa- the boxes are free at the Post Office as well...you don't pay until you actually use the box
You may want to double check how heavy the boxes will weigh- i was our command's FRG President before switching to Ombudsman & part of our pre-deployment project was to compile the mailing info- much to our surprise, unless the large FPO flat-rate box gets to at least 14 or 15#, you're spending more than you would by using the regular Priority Mail boxes (their largest PM box is also a little larger than the large FPO flat-rate box).

but yes, get the boxes, address labels, & the large white customs forms from their website, so you can always make sure you have them on hand- much to my surprise, our PO doesn't have any of these (except the labels) on hand!
Thanks to Cora (Howie's wife) for bring to our attention a military package program the Post Office started; Click This for a link to her discussion.
Thanks! The lady I've been dating is a Postmaster, so I had an edge on the shipping, boxes and dates to be sent by. December 11 is the deadline for the FPO AE 095 zip codes. Nick will have a couple of good, full boxes of goodies!!!
