Larry a good start would be to join the boot camp group. They swap a lot of helpful advice in there. Definitely plan on going to graduation. It is something to see and Oh Yea! you get to see your child again. We stayed in Lincoln shire it was about 15 minutes from the base. Spend time in the city if you can. We loved it. Chicago was the cleanest city I've been to. I was amazed. The phone calls will be few and a letter a week in boot camp. The first few weeks seem like forever but after that it seems to fly by. Keep me posted on Samantha's progress.
Not to sound stupid, but how do I join a bootcamp group? We are set to go to graduation for sure.
On the main page in the midle you will see several groups (with pictures) just click on and you will be taken to the group page and can join there.

Larry as David said on the main page their are pictures of groups. The pic of the sailor suit and hat folded is the boot camp group. Click on the picture and on the right side of the page in a white box click on join group. Let me know if you have problems. Any group that has info you wish to know just join the group.
Just a note- shuttles run between the base and most of the hotels for a very reasonable price- think it was $3.00/person last year....they bypass all the cars a stop right at the gate. I've driven on base (Oct '05) and have taken the shuttle-- I recommend the shuttle, but be sure to ask the desk at your hotel. It's mayhem when liberty is announced as parents are trying to find their sailors - remember there are about a 1000 sailors.....I let out this HUGE Corona yell for both Kat's and Eric's graduation-- it helped both of them orient where I generally was though I think everyone sitting next to us thought "this guy is crazy....)
