A school liberty

In a nutshell there are 3 phases of liberty in A school.They have to phase "up".

Phase I they can leave the base but must be in uniform at all times and return to base early that evening. Phase II they can now wear their civvies. Phase III they can leave the base on Friday night but must return to base Sunday night.

We were just there about a week ago to visit our son who is doing A-School at Great Lakes. We planned it for a weekend when he would not have to stand watch. Everyone is required to stand a watch on their ship every four days. During this time they can not leave the base and can only leave their ship during authorized breaks. Our son had a watch on a Thursday and then wasn't due to stand watch until Monday so that gave him the weekend free to spend with us. We arrived on a Friday, picked him up after school, signed him out, and then got to keep him with us until Sunday night. It was a great visit and we got to spend so much time together. He had to apply for this liberty two weeks in advance and wasn't approved until the day before. On Sunday we restocked his snack supply. Also when we dropped him off he gave us things to take back home with us as he didn't need them.
