I received another letter home today from my recruit. He is well and his words were that of excitement. Is is getting very enthusiastic about his training. He passed the swim test without a hitch. He said that his division is really pulling together as a unit and has surpassed the expectations of the petty officers in charge. He has finished his agonizing dental work and is on the way to recovery from that. Since he a just a little bit more mature than some, in age and life experience, he said that some of the younger recruits have confided in him for guidance. Being away from home for the first time for many of these young men, is can be difficult.
He said that the recruits can expect a find Christmas dinner with egg nog made from scratch, pumpkin pie, turkey and all the fixins and trimmings. Heck I may see of I can get in on some of that. Back in 1974 I don't recall the food in Great Lakes being that memorable. However we ate well on the ship and at the other bases around the world.
For those that have new recruits or have never been in the Navy or other military branch, be at ease. Your sons and daughters are in good hands. My son was able to call home at the 3rd week. After that they had an address and were able to write home and receive mail once you have their address in hand. Some may have called home for more or better references. That is for their security clearances and such.
I have questions about the graduation. Do I have to do anything to be able to attend the ceremony? Do I register on line? Do I need a pass or code to park? Is there any special instructions on attending the graduation? I don't want to miss it.

Your SR will have to put your name on his guest list at RTC. When you receive the form letter, there will be a password and link to print out your parking pass for PIR. After that...all you need to do is get there! There are lots of tips on this site regarding PIR.....Good luck, Sir!
