Navy Dads

My daughter is away at boot camp. Since she left her car (my car actually) at home and plans not to take it on to A School, etc, anyway, I was going to drop her off my auto insurance. The agent, however, told me to leave her on for a variety of reasons: in case she drove when she came home on leave; so she would have an insurance record and some others.

Are they just jacking me around? Do you have to have auto insurance when you don't even own or have a car?

Thanks - TomT

Joe - sorry I haven't been on in a few days. I'm not sure what part you need more information on. Let me know.
We were in the same situation. Our company told us to keep him on but they gave us a super reduced rate.
Tom,

In Georgia you have to go to the title/tag office and fill out a form to drop the insurance. If not they put a note or something in their records and later you have pay a fine to sell the car or put tags on it. Its been about 4 years since my daughter moved out, I didn't know about this and it was a pain to get it straight. Some one making a new law all the time.
I have Geico. They carry him as deployed, he is on the policy but I am not being charged the full rate, insurance went down considerably
My son is out to sea and his vehicle was left at home I put it in my garage and start it from time to time, but New Jersey law say's they have to charge something to keep the policy active so his rate when he is out to sea is 46.00 a year
