Navy Dads

I am in Navy DEP and I will be going to boot camp soon. I have been trying to get as much information as possible. My contract says AV, which I understand will then be either AE or AT. I was also told with this rating I can volunteer for Aircrew. I know that some people are contracted AW, but I was told I could also volunteer... Is this true? If so, at what point can I 'volunteer' for Aircrew to be sure I can go to NACCS? I was told I could at boot camp, but I can't confirm that information anywhere. If anyone knows or can point me to someone who does, please help me!

Okay! Thank you very much!
My son is on ship 12 division 159... My wife is on the Navy for Moms wedsite and she was told that, there is 88 on ship12 division 159, and that 10 of them got to write or call. She was told that the rest of the division are having a hard time folding their clothes...Did any of you parents heard anything lately?
Joie, we just received 2 letters and a phone call yesterday. Our son didn't mention any of that only to say that only 12 out of 81 passed inspection in which he was one of them. Their division lost 7 recruits, which means they will be held back from graduation. What is your son's name? I will tell my son to look for him. My son Jon has been advanced to Recruit Petty Officer 2nd Class.

I just want to thank everyone for all the information i needed..sorry i havent been on Navy for Dads..i work at the golf course and we r getting busy, plus just getting through basketball season..Yes i did recieved a letter and a phone call from my son. He's doing real well and sounds so mature. He's enjoying it, he passed the fittness part, so he's happy. I felt great to hear from him. Thank you again everyone!

Joie,

Glad to hear that you heard from your son. We're waiting for additional letters but they don't have a whole lot of down time. But it sounds like everything is going pretty good for them.

Anyway, you mention that you work at a golf course. So do I. I work in the pro shop at a course here in Pennsylvania. If we meet up in Great Lakes, we can trade golf stories.

I'm the Assistiant Superintendent..i  ran the crew! i told them what i wanted done..my son is doing well, he says that bootcamp sucks right now, because they are cramming alot of infromation in a week..i told him to hang tough and he will make it through. Hopefully we can run into each other and talk about golf!
Yea, hopefully we see ech other at PIR. We are staying at the Ramada Waukegan. They have a Meet and Greet for Navy parents the night before graduation. If you are staying there, we'll see you and talk golf! By the way, do you play?
