This sounds just like the phone call that I got a couple of weeks ago.  Then I got a letter saying that he had been selected to help design and then draw the division flag, and was really looking forward to visiting with us after the PIR.

I heard several military veterans in and out of my family tell my son before he left, 'Just do exactly what they tell you to do and you'll be okay'. 

Only other advice I can offer is to tell him not to get overwhelmed with it. Take each day one at a time. And write him every day. My son says it makes all the difference in the world to him. Mail call is their only link to the outside world.

Like everyone says here- keep encouraging. My son leaves the 18th for Great Lakes, he has been driving himself a little crazy already trying to remember the General Orders.

I have told my son , to be prepared- some time the first few weeks, when recruits have " what the heck have I gotten myself into" moment, and that it will pass. Everything I have read and looked at  on Navy basic- the team is emphasized, and sure your son will be paired up with assistance.

reinforce with him: pay attention to detail, do what told to do in a quick manner, and keep ears open and mouth shut.....
