Navy Dads

My son, Shane, was able to call home this past Thursday evening. His whole life he has been a soft spoken person and often mumbles his words. Especially on the telephone. When we were able to talk the other night he sounded much different. He had confidence in his voice. He spoke strong and clear. What a difference. I sort of remember my parents saying those things about me when I came home from GL. (about 38 years ago.) Shane is in Ship 13 Div 064. I hope thate there are other dads out there with sons in this division that are reading. You will notice a change in your son when they graduate. Proud. Confident. Part of something larger than they are as an individual. With Purpose.

Shane stated that one of the Petty Officers in charge got on to him a little one day. Told him, "do I need to call your father and tell him how you are doing". shane told his supervisors tht when I was in GL from 4/29/74 - 07/10/74 Company 104, Color company (two flags shy of Hall of Fame). We meshed together as a team by the leadership of a Chief Gunners Mate. Commencement was impressive with all of those flags. Hoping that my son's division is able to mesh and earn a plethera of flags. Parents will be most proud. Probably bring a tear to your eye. I am prepared for that.

How long has your son been in before you received the call my son is on ship 12 div 072 we have not heard from him as of yet!

Michelle, & Jerry we have a son in that division as well.  We received the call that he got there ok.  Then becasue of his rating, he had to have some other infomration for references.  So he cxalled for that this was last week.  The call was very short, and to the point.  Not sure if they had someone there listening to the conversation or what.  He needed some personal references, and phone numbers.

We are making it to graduation, hoping the weather will not be very bad. I have read that the familes should not expect a phone call on Christmas.

Thank you knowing your son is in that divsion as my son is a very happy moment for me because now I feel I have someone who can relate to me and Jerry and help keep us posted on how things are agoing for now.  I know my son must be doing ok as he is into week 4 but I like to hear his voice just to say Mom & Dad I am OK tired but making it just fine, I am sure thats the normal of all our concerns with boot camp.  I will be Patiently waiting to hear from him and keep watching your posting.  I would like to make my reservations but I do not know how long his family time will be or where his A school is as of yet.  Hopefully as time grows near I can make my arrangements and so happy you did get a brief call from your son and know he is in same div as my son Ship 12 Div 72 and we plan on being at graduation can't wait so excited for this honorable event.  Take care post us anytime look forward to meeting you & yours there if can find families.

What is your sons Rating (Job).  I am not sure if they put the same recruits wiht like ratings in the same Div.  Just an FYI, but my son has an IT rating.  His "A" school is in Pensecola.  From what I have been able to gather, if the "A" is away they could leave right after graduation, or the next day. That is if they are going away for "A" school.  If he is staying there, again from what I have read about they will report to their new command and may have some time after that.  If they fly out, you can go with them to the airport, and from what I have read, check with the air carrier check in, and get a special pass to accompany your son to the gate. You still have to go through the screening process by the TSA, but that is nothing to be able to spend more time with your sailor. One final thing, don;t set by the phone on Christmas day thinkin you will definitely get a call, From what I have discovered, this is something that usually doesn't happen.

Takre care.

He is in for Operation Specialtist and I am not sure but before he left he told me that his Recruiter local said that his A school may be in Virgina if so he will have to leave Saturday after Friday's Graduation but I was trying to be sure that is correct and only way to know is ask him but I have to wait upon his call.  Just want making my reservations before it gets to close so tickets are done.  If you receive any information or hear from your son please let me know I am feeling most happy at the moment knowing your son may possibly know of my son where they are now builing lots of friends during this boot camp.  This is an amazing site so full of information and thank you again for your time.

Mike, my son also got in that day and is set to PIR 1 FEB 13. He is in Ship 04 Div 088. Haven't hear word either.
