Does anyone know what the recruits do during this holiday? Do they have the day off, do they get to call home, or.........?

Hi Eddie,

My wife had completed some research on this already and has been in communication with The Public Affairs rep and received the following info:

The 30 Dec group will be the eligible Training Group for the Adopt-A-Sailor program. They are the only group. Families will be permitted to come pick up their recruit (plus one other, such as your recruit's friend) Christmas morning and spend the day with them. They must be dropped off at the base by 8 p.m. We realize majority of the families will not be able to afford back-to-back trips for that and PIR, but if any families are local, the opportunity is there.

Any recruit not going with families will automatically be adopted with their shipmates in groups of 25-100 by local civic organization such as churches, American Legions or VFWs. No recruit in this Training Group will be left behind. They'll enjoy a day of feasting, watching movies, playing video games and get the use of phones to make calls home.

Hope this is of some assistance.
