Miguel, that's a tough one. About the only advice would be to rent a cab, it's about $50 each way. Once at the hotels almost all of them have a shuttle to the PIR. I know not much help. The other thing that I could sugest is to try to hook up with another set of parents, my wife and I made that offer to a mom that was in a similar problem, but her dad came through for her. There was also a cab company I think it was called Sarge's who is supossed to give a good rate to the grads and their family's. Don't know if I have the number any more. Anyone from the Aug. 12th PIR have it? If so please respond to this young man and try to help him out. At our PIR a lot of the parents were prior service, we may have worn diferrent uniforms but we all took the same oath. Good Luck

I would try calling some rental car companies in the area. Some allow people under their minimum age to rent but for an extra fee. I know the cost is a little more, but would probably be cheaper than a cab.

According to the pamphlet I got from my son there is one for (www.airportexpress.com) it says offering special airport shuttle service fares for Naval Station Great Lakes Recruits and Families or you can call their number listed at 1-800-2-the-van. (1-800-284-3826) discount code: "MWR" use the code when making the reservation. The other thing like Hank said is try to find someone who is going to the PIR on the day you are and try to get a ride.

Oh another thing most hotels offer shuttle services to the PIR and if you take a taxi from the Hotel to the PIR it's $3.00 a head. You can call your hotel to see what type of service they offer if any. Also I'd ask them which taxi services they use and call them to just to verify it's $3.00 a head. I'm sure it's $3.00 from the hotel in the area to the PIR though I've read it on lots of posts. Good luck.

Miguel, Sarge's Taxi Chicago phone # is 1-847-212-0246, from what I have read on here from others is a great service, call them and get details, hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help. But i may not go : (. It seems like so much to trouble with the amount of time i will get to see her. 2 days. i want to see her graduate but the cost is insane.

Have you thought about a military hop? Also Navy Lodge lets recruit visitors stay. Within walking distance, or share a ride where there is room. Could really keep the cost down.
