My oldest enlisted as a CTN last week. Today the Navy called and stated that they had a female opening for Nuke Tech and want her to do that. Pros, cons, advice, helpful hints, guidance? Both are 6 year commitments and get E4 after A school. Nuke school doesn't have the high failure rate of CTN. Anyone with kids in either program that can help out?
Thanks,
E

Eric, I actually had to look up the CTN rate as I had no idea. My Sailor just finished prototype and is off to the fleet so I do have perspective on the schooling side, but past that I need to learn as well. I would ask you, as her Dad, where do her talents lie? Most Nukes tend toward the hands on side, especially the MM types. But, I would have to say it would seem that both rates will serve her well later on.
I would suggest going to military.com and asking. There should be people on that board with more experience with both ratings.
From everything I've seen, after SEALS, nuke has the highest drop rate. I think the potential for dropout rate shouldn't be overlooked.
