As soon as they leave boot camp they head for A school. I would say 99% of the time.
My son spent 2 weeks in between boot camp and a school waiting for his ET class to fill up. alot of the time in beteen depends on how many recruits they have going into that feild and how far they are along in bootcamp.
My son graduated last Friday...he didnt fly out to Pensacola until Sunday so we hade fri and sat with him...He flew out of Midway...some fly out of Ohare...he'll get his travel orders sometime this week....Have fun at PIR...!! It's a blast...PS get there early or you'll be in the upper deck like us...visibility is bad up there!  We got there at 7:15 and were late...

My son graduates boot camp on June 15th. Can't wait to see him. He says his A school is across the street from boot camp? Anyone heard of that?

yeah....Great Lakes Naval Base is across the street from RTC......

My son will be graduating the same day, ship 12 div.186, then on to A-School supposed to be across the street?  he's going to to be OS (operations specialist) where they go to school depends on thier field. My concern is I haven't heard about liberty status after PIR, we are traveling approx. 3000 miles to get there!!

my son also will be graduating on the 15th, and going to A-school across the street. Also an OS. maybe they are in the same Div? 186

You want to be careful with what items you give him....A-schools in general allow for certain items (for instance civilian clothes) only after they complete a specific phase of training, typically about two weeks. Laptops and cell phones are typically the exception and are generally allowed after they leave RTC grounds.

My son has PIR on Friday August 23th. His A-school is across street the recruiter told us. My son will be a Shipmate Mechanic I think.  So if I understand this correct after PIR on Friday he will check out of boot camp and check into A-school then contact us? Then I think he has some Liberty time Friday afternoon and early eve?  Plus we can see him that Saturday and Sunday also? If anyone could answer would be great. I really love this site. Thanks to all, mainly all military vets, current and future. I hope this all goes great. My younger son wants to be a fighter pilot in the Navy. He wants to fly in and off aircraft carriers. He is very smart and athletic. Gifted in Math, Science and English. My older son did an excellent job being a rule model. Right now very proud of him. Again thanks

you've gt the PIR thing right...it will take about 4 hours to get checked in but he should have liberty Fri evening and Sat/Sun.....but be prepared as he may have duty/watch during that time and will need to be on base.  Also make darn sure you allow at least an hour for him to muster after liberty so get him back with plenty of time to spare

Thanks a million. Were from Ohio. About 7 hours. We will make work whatever happens.
