Navy Dads

June 14th is rapidly approaching, and I'm wondering what gifts (if any) I can get my son.  Any ideas?  Will he have access to email during A school, or do most of the mates have their personal laptops?

Every command is different but your son will let you know exactly what he can have. In our experience just to have his cel phone back was huge! When my son was in A School he eventually had me ship his PS3 setup to Pensacola. I too had asked if he can use a laptop or tablet but he said not worth it since the wireless connectivity was slow/still being worked on (this was back in 2011) and he had to pay for the account. So whenever he needed to hop on a PC he walked quite a ways but there were workstations available for use...

wireless is poor at most A-schools I've come to learn.....a ton of recent grads want nice watches- just an idea

That's funny.  My son wrote me a recent letter asking what new video games were out haha!  I wanted to hear how he's doing with training, he wants to know about video games.

When my middle kid graduated from Cavalry Scout training I wanted to get him a nice, tough watch that would survive just about anything and that he could see at night.

I found this:  http://www.amazon.com/Luminox-Mens-3051-Colormark-Watch/dp/B000WY8Z...

It ended up being the perfect watch for him.  Four years later and he still loves it.  Bought one for myself and it's been great as well.  So when my youngest graduates from Navy boot camp in July, he'll get one.

That is a cool watch but wouldn't the numbers & hashes light up if shined with light?

On that watch, the numbers are not reflective.  However, the hash marks and hands of the watch contain little gas lights that are always lit and will stay lit for 25 years.  Very nice watches for low light/no light situations.  They are not that cheap, but if you look around you can probably find one for under $200.00.

Thank you for sharing a great idea and the link to it!
