Much respect for the folks running this site! We shipped our Son off Sept 20 and I found great comfort from navydads.com! We received his form letter yesterday along with the curve ball of a Thanksgiving Grad (Nov 23). I thought I would reach out and tap into others experience. I am wondering if the process will be 'normal', with the recruits flying out the next day or will there be a bit of variance here due to Thanksgiving? If his Liberty will include T-Day, then we would want to plan for that and set up a Thanksgiving in deployoment :) Any info/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely. Besides, you know how this works. We will collect ample evidence of the most logical path and they will take the opposite approach... I raised my son to be flexible so he should be prepared. I, on the other hand, might have to re-learn all those lessons.
Your insight is much appreciated.

I'll keep digging for you...I would bet that they leave on Friday, but I'm not sure and don't want to give you wrong info....
Thanks Tony, I have gotten busy and did not have a chance to call them back. Thanks for the info. I am also waiting on my son to verify and will post once he does. It is starting to look reasonable that they may indeed have T-Day liberty.
Hi all, I received a rather lengthy phone call this morning from my son. Thank God for security clearance questions! He has confirmed that the two options we have talked about on this thread are both viable. There is talk about shipping them out immediately and then granting Liberty after they check into A-School. Staying at Great Lakes and leaving Friday is also on the table. Interesting though, he seemed to think they may be able to come home from A-School over their Liberty?? I would not have thought that would have been allowed... At any rate, hopefully something will firm up over the next few weeks.
Tony, I must have missed this. My son is Luke and he is also in Ship 12 Div 008. Their Division is really small due to some issues. Luke says they are only in week 1 of basic this week, so they had a long processing period. He was able to tell us some really hilarious stories during a security clearance phone call today. Sounds like they have decent RDC's

Thanks David for posing this question as my son Connor is in Ship 12 Div. 008 and graduates on 11/23 too.
It would be highly unlikely. They are in phase one liberty, which has a curfew. Now if they are allowed to take three days leave en route to their school, that would be highly unusual but not 100% impossible, and the only way they could go home if it is out of bounds. For the last few years, no one has shipped the same day as PIR, but it doesn't mean it can't happen. Just is not the most likely thing. And RTC cannot guarantee what liberty the A school might grant, other than T-Day is a day off for anyone who doesn't have duty. If they are staying at Great Lakes, yes, they check into their school, than have liberty that evening, and then the next day.
Generally, any federal holiday will be a day of liberty. They'll still muster in the morning and have curfew in the evening at RTC, but travel is probably not going to be on the table for those going out of state. Friday or Saturday as a travel day is a safe~ish bet. Depends on when the Navy got the contracted seats on flights.
Liberty limit on PIR weekend is 50 miles instead of the usual 300.

Margaret,
Much appreciated! your comments/thinking are likely on point. Seems like the evidence points toward T-Day liberty at Great Lakes and all we can do is hope it goes not go another direction. I know my son is hanging onto the prospect of liberty for dear life at this point. That and cuddling up to his beloved phone...
He will probably want a long shower too, showering by yourself is a huge treat after boot camp!
Anyone have any updates; on whether or not Sailors will have liberty on T-day?
