My son will PIR on 04/01/2011 Ship 11 Division 117. We are driving up from Texas and staying @ the La Quinta Inn in Arlington Heights Ill. It is about 9 miles from RTC and if you tell them your there for PIR they will give you a great rate, about 39.00 per nite before taxes. This is a very nice Hotel and they offer a free Breakfast.

we stayed at the crossland hotel in waukegan we booked online and got 2 rooms at 42$ a night we  booked with expedia.com and they give a good navy discoute they have a 2 queen beds and small kit with dishes so you can cook in your room. food and base are 2 to4 min  drive time , very clean rooms

always books your rooms 2 mounths out from PIR's so you can get a good one and close to the base

I need some help. My girlfriend PIR date is 9/23/2011 and i am in the Army. I heard of the navy lodging but i dont know if thats best. i dont even know their site. I also cant rent a car cause of my age : C Im 19. I have a learners permit and stationed at fort Meade. Whats the best way to get to Naval base back and forth and what hotel. What airport?

Crazy question.  Is the Navy Lodge on the base?

no, the Navy Lodge is not on the base

I just wanted to share this brochure that was forwarded to me. It's pretty neat and hope you find it useful as well for GL PIR/Graduation. There's lodging info, restaurants, entertainment, discounts, etc...

If you're planning to print this it should be on 11 x 17 sized paper.

I stayed at the Red Carpet Inn. I think its 1.5 miles from base. I got a room with a jacuzzi. I thought Sailorette would enjoy not showering for a change. The breakfast isnt served till 0600. Depending on your plans that may be an issue. Your not missing much the donuts were terrible. There is a quickie mart next door which is a much better option I felt (free coffee be damned).

I enjoyed the room and would recommend it.

For all of you who are planning to attend graduation and are looking for lodging, I highly recommend Marriott's SpringHill Suites. It's located roughly 3.6 miles away from RTC (about a 12 minute commute). Situated by Fountain Square Shopping Center, there are a number of restaurants & eateries, shops and a gas station within a short walking distance from the hotel. You'll also find a WalMart along with Citi and Bank of America.

I was impressed by the rooms here from functionality and comfort to the layout and design. There's a microwave, a mini-fridge, coffee maker and the nice shower is separate from the restroom. There's a flat-screen TV, iPad/iPhone docking station, workstation area and a sleek couch.

In the lobby you’ll find a PC kiosk area where you can access the internet and print information for Free, Free wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) internet access throughout the hotel, there's a nice indoor pool, a bar and lounge area as well. They also offered Free continental breakfast.

Their rates are competitive but call and ask for specials on Navy graduation rates. They also provide shuttle service (taxi cabs) for graduation. I’m impressed and you won’t be disappointed!

If you're active/retired military or DOD civilian, you might check out

Navy Gatway Inns and Suites - Great Lakes

We stayed there in June of 2012.  2 room suite with kitchen for $55 a night.

Most active/retired military folks probably already know to check for on-base lodging, but DOD civilians are eligible too.
