My son left for boot camp on January 7th, and since then all we have heard from him was the I arrive safely call, received his box, and the letter about graduation. Is this normal that we have not received at least one call from him? I do know that no news is good news, but I would love to hear is voice. When can I expect a call maybe?

You're not going to get a call for awhile....typically around week 3 you'll get a "I'm still alive" call....likewise for letters. Keep the faith....all is normal.
This is the hardest part for parents....the lack of communication! The only guaranteed calls are the initial "I've arrived" and the final "I'm a Sailor" calls.....anything else is a cherry on top! Use the time to write letters to your Son. They will help boost him at Basic and are good therapy for you as well! You should start getting letters from him around week 3-4. Recruits write on Sundays, so you should camp by the mailbox on Wednesdays. Welcome to the rollercoaster! Your emotions are going to bounce like crazy over the next 2 months!
Tom is correct, you'll get letters around Wednesday or Thursday as they can write on Sundays. I usually heard from my daughter on Sundays as well. I wrote to her A LOT. Sometimes just a short "I'm thinking about you, miss and am very proud of you" letter. Being a lawyer they were always on yellow legal paper, she later told me every time she saw one of them come in she would smile and tear up a little. Write often, it means a lot. Good luck, and God Bless your son and all who serve.
Definitely write to your SR. The 1st letter we got from our son, he said "your letters came at the perfect time".
Thanks for all the encouragement. We did receive two letters yesterday. It was great hearing from him. The best news he is even enjoying it!!! I was so glad to hear that he is enjoying it.
Great news!...Keep those letters coming & going! Feel better already....right....LOL?
