My son is "supposed" to be "somewhere" tomorrow. He has no idea whether he has a flight tomorrow and has no idea where is going. His next base is to be SanDiego, but his ship is already deployed. His sponsor said to try and get a passport if he could, but that it was NOT MANDATORY. While he is home on leave the admin on the ship decided that it would be pointless to go to SanDiego and that he should fly directly to a port where the ship could pick him up. They haven't ever finalized those details. Up until last Thursday we thought it was a possibility we would need to drive him back the 14hours to DC so that he could catch a plane to SanDiego, now we have no idea.
When my son let them know that he was unable to get a passport because the ship did not request it, the FC2 reamed him out via email for not having one passport. What gives??? He applied for one at Dahlgren while he was in school, they told him the day he left to come home that he could not have one without a letter from his ship. That was only 16 days ago. No time to get a passport between then and now. Besides, his sponsor said it was not mandatory.
How in the world does this work? It is 0011 right now. Technically it is already tomorrow. Shouldn't someone have told him something by now?
I've planned to be off work tomorrow. Do I just keep taking days off work until the Navy get their act together???

His hard orders were to be in SanDiego today. His sponsor is on the ship, which is deployed. They have been contacting him via email.
A few days ago an FC1 started contacting him from the ship. The FC1 said he would be taking over as his sponsor. Yesterday an FC2 said that she would be his contact person from now on.
This morning he received an email at 0258 CST from FC2 stating that he was not to execute his orders to leave on the 12th and to be on "hot standby" to leave within a couple of hours notice.
They haven't even confirmed for him which aiport he will be flying from.
Add to this, one of the communications yesterday said they were in river city. Almost a CIT I know, but this is what FC2 said.
To further clarify. Yes, he had orders to be in SanDiego on the 12th and was told that his flight information would be provided to him. It never was. Even if he needed to fall back on the hard orders, how does he execute them without an itinerary?
I'd be sure to print every e-mail that has been received so far so he will have some evidence when he does finally get to where he's going.
He has the original digital copy of every last one.
Michael started the passport when it was suggested he do so. Then someone who thought they knew better (a civilian in the ATRC school office) decided that he wasn't allowed to apply for one. Still haven't figured that out.
I thought the scripture about the right hand not knowing what the left is doing was supposed to be about not bragging about good deeds, not beaureaucratic incompetence.
As of this evening he finally has orders. They are from five days from now. He has to leave out of an airport that is 14 hours from his present location. At least it is something more concrete.
