My son shipped out 7 days ago and got the box within 3 days. Now I am just waiting for the letter and his division number to write back. The wife is driving me crazy with questions so I set her up on NavyMoms.com and she is learning how to cry with the rest of them. I have tried to explain to her what's going on with him during boot being I was there many moons ago (in the 80's), however it gave her something to do and talk to other Navy Moms.

you should get that letter anytime now............
Thanks, I'm looking forward to it...
Let us know-- Maybe He'll be with my son. He left on 12-2 and the box arrived 12-8
Typically the first 4-10 days after the new recruits arrive at RTC are called Processing Days or P-Days. Around holidays and sometimes for unforeseen issues (flight delays, severe weather, etc.) P-days can last up to 14 days. Although recruits are assigned to a ship and division upon arrival, these assignments are not final and they do not move to their designated ship until P-days are over. Unplanned events may change that ship assignment. Your sailor's recruiter may give you an address a day or two after your recruit arrived at Great Lakes with a particular division that may not be final. This is why NavyDads always advises you to wait for your sailor's form letter with his or her correct address. That letter typically arrives 5-10 days after they have shipped to RTC.
your not alone in your "mail box vigil". Our son arrived one week ago, Thurs evening and we've received his box Tues (it was here Mon, but needed a signature and we weren't home). Once we know his division and PIR date we can move forward and reserve hotel accommodations. But since the wife constantly checks in with NavyforMoms and I dwell here, we've kinda, sorta have an idea of his PIR. Now we do realize anything can and/or will happen...but this guess is all we've got at this point so we're clinging to it.
Blake Owens mentioned his son arrived Mon 12/1 and was assigned Div 073, PIR 1/23/15. A poster on NavyforMoms posted her son shipped 12/03/14 and was assigned Div 078, PIR 1/30/15 with another Mom's son arrived 12/04/14 and assigned same division. Our son arrived 12/04. So....looking at RTC's website on PIR dates, http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp, I noticed how the divisions were in sequential order and dates posted (divisions 51-60 PIR 1/09/15, div 61-66 PIR 1/16/15, div 67-74 PIR 1/23/15). Notice that each PIR date has from 5-9 divisions graduating. I'm thinking with Blake's son arriving Mon in Div 73, and the other two Moms arriving same time as my son and div 78, if my son didn't get in that division or a couple after, then his PIR is most likely gonna be either 1/30/15 or 2/06/15. Maybe. Hopefully. Oh who the hell knows? I'm not getting anything so I'm just posting to not feel alone in my "hurry up and wait" mode. Seems my Magic 8-ball is on the blink. But my guess is as good as any.
OUR SONS MIGHT VERY WELL BE IN THE SAME DIVISION. I WILL POST THE MINUTE I GET THAT FORM LETTER AND LET YA KNOW.
My son is Ship 12 Div 75 with PIR 1-30-15. Since his school is only 100 miles from where we live (Columbia SC to Charleston SC), I'm torn as to whether or not to go to PIR. I mean it'd be a no brainer if I knew I wasn't going to see him soon because his A school was far away. Hubs thinks I shouldn't, but is supporting me if I do.
My stand right now is to wait and see how his letters sound... If you all were in my shoes, what would you do?
heh...I'm not being given a choice. My marching orders are to have the car prepared for a long distance drive and update the GPS. Since I like having the little woman warm my backside in bed, I'm embracing the idea of going to Great Lakes. In the dead of winter. In a car with the wife and daughter. For 900 miles. Listening to their music.
LOL!!!
You are a Great and Wise Man!!

Sharon; I’d highly encourage you to go to the PIR. My parents attended mine almost 38 years ago (March 1979), our son is a few weeks behind yours and will also be heading to Charleston SC immediately after Great Lakes. Charleston is about 7 hours from my home (Virginia Beach). Watch a few of the live streams of PIR and you will both see and feel the pride these wonderful young people have in their accomplishments. And it is an accomplishment as parents that he chose to serve.
