Navy Dads

Well we are here enjoying our son's liberty which is great. The only thing he has wanted to do is hang out in the hotel, take hot showers, and talk on the phone. Thanks for all the help and information from this site. You've all made the waiting bareable. Thanks again :)

My son was the same way.  Liberty was bittersweet since we had to give him back.  We went to O'Hare and sat with him until he boarded.  I would advise any parent to get up no matter how early and see them off.  Ohare gave us boarding passes so we could stay until the plane loaded.

Liberty was awesome! My husband and I really enjoyed the time we spent with our new sailor. We went down to the Navy Pier and that was cool. They have lots of nice stained glass on display in their museum. We did get to eat the deep dish pizza but because here in Hawaii we don't eat as much cheese as people in Chicago, it started to get to be a bit too much by day 2 lol. The first thing my son did was run out and buy a cell phone. We already had his sim card and his lap top so he was able to take both with him Friday night. He was able to stay out until 2200 but we always made sure to get him back by 2100 because it is a long walk back to his ship. He is really enjoying himself and said he got beat daily. He laughed about it all and said that getting beat daily really helped him get into shape. He said the RDC's had fun beating them for no reason but he enjoyed it. He is putting in a request to come home in December and work with his recruiter here in the office while he is on leave. Then he finishes school in January at which time he has a 1 week liberty before he is off to fulfill his duties as a US Navy Sailor :) We are so very proud of him!

He got some division shirts and jackets for my husband and I. He also gave me his picture packet as well.  He said if we didn't go then he would have been very sad. I think no matter what that all parents should attend PIR. Once your child goes to boot camp just save or even before boot camp. He didn't see us at first since over 500 recruits graduated. I could see the disappointment on his face, him thinking we didn't go. Once he heard me yelling his name he was all smiles and very happy. I can't express how proud and happy I am for him. Thank you to all and good luck to all the new recruits and their families :) I have so much more to share but don't want to just go on and on so if anyone has questions about PIR you can send me a message :)

No doubt parents should go to PIR.  Now what about A school?  Isn't there graduation for that?

There is a graduation but it's not as revered as boot camp. They don't get all the bells and whistles with graduation from A school. The most important one for the recruits is their PIR.
