My Son Signed Yesterday For CTN.

the CT* ratings are great, good luck to your son. My daughter has been in for @ 4.5 years, she is CTT1 (Petty Officer 1st class in the CTT). Once you get past PIR I hope you can visit your son at Pensacola, I went a couple of times and fell in love with that area

My son is also a CTN.  He ships out on Jan 23.  I think (biased opinion) that it's a great rating with highly transferable skills.  Good Luck!

We are a very proud Navy family as well.  Our son left for Basic in August of last year and is now in "A" school and soon enters Nuclear Power School.  Our son was in DEP for 10 months before shipping out.  It did get him ready.  Thank you for raising a son who is focused on supporting our great country with his service.  Don't miss graduation; you will be amazed at the change in your son.  PIR is very emotional and patriotic.  If you can go to Sarge's Meet and Greet the night before you will enjoy meeting other Navy families.

Congratulations on your son's choice to be a CTN.  I work at Navy Recruiting Command Headquarters and I can assure you that CTN is one of, if not the best, enlisted ratings the Navy has to offer.  In fact, my son just arrived at boot camp yesterday and he signed up as a CTN also.  You should be very proud of your son as it is not an easy rating to qualify for.  Also, the training he will receive will transfer very easily into the civilian sector if your son decides to not make the Navy a 20 year career.

The real value to the CT rating is the security clearance. CT's have top level clearances and that makes them very valuable to Government organizations (NSA, CIA, etc.). These organizations and others like them are always seeking people that already have clearances because it costs them a ton of $$ to do an investigation to grant a new one. Having a high level clearance is also beneficial in that it indicates to any employer outside the Navy that that individual is trustworthy and, most likely, will be a good employee.
