Well I guess i'll answer my own question, got a text from him saying there wouldn't be a phone call and packing everything up to send home.Hopefully this will be an exception from what this website has expected us to believe our sons and daughters will be subject to.

Here's an update he did call this morning at 5:30 Pacific time , He wasn't real happy said they wouldn't be allowed to sleep till 10 pm tonight. Guess He will adjust sorry about thinking you guys were wrong just an adjustment time for us to.       Dan.

Glad that you got the call! Trust what you learn here...it is the culmination of all of our experiences! We have all been there and have felt what you are now going through. It is a long and difficult journey...but one that many have made. Be very proud of your Son....Best of luck to him and your family through the next 2 months. Merry Christmas!

If you read though back posts you'll learn that they are kept up a long time on arrival to re-set everyones biological clock to RTC time

Dan, I can relate to how you're feeling. My son arrived 9pm on 12/8/11 at O'Hare and I did not get the quick call until 3am on 12/9/11. He called on his cell phone and said he made it safely and will call in approximately 3 weeks. I received his box of clothes and cell phone on 12/13/11.I was up all night waiting on the call, but it was worth it to hear his voice.

Be patient Dan. The text thing is unusual and he definitely won't be able to keep the phone during training. The hardest part for me was not knowing his address so I couldn't communicate to him. Be patient, and he will send you information around week 2 or 3 detailing his address and some other very IMPORTANT things to keep and remember. You will know what I mean when you get it. I found it helpful to write a letter each night even though I couldn't send it. Then when I got the address I sent them all. Patrick said he truly appreciated all the letters. I found it therapeutic as well. Be patient and get ready for PIR! It is awesome! Be ready to recognize something very different in your son too. You will be proud I am certain.

Thank you all for your replies,

I wish I had done my homework as to what to expect from  boot camp I know he is in good hands and am looking forward to seeing him at PIR.  I'm very proud of him for doing this and will take your advice about letter writing We will do all we can to make his time at Great lakes easier by supporting him. Again thank you for your wisdom and God bless you and yours and the USN.     Dan.

My son also arrived on 12/13. We never got a call from GL, but he called from O'Hare before their bus trip. I'm assuming if he stays on schedule, that PIR is February 10. Is that accurate or does being a December recruit change the schedule?

John, once you know your son's Division then follow this link. They will detail when his graduation date will be.  http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp I have heard there can be a Christmas stand down Navy wide and have heard that this can include boot camp although I don't know how they do that. His PIR will depend on when he actually starts his formal training. Right now he is in what they call P days. You will get info you need from him soon (about 2 weeks) From my own personal perspective these days were the hardest for me not knowing. Keep the faith and know that your son is in good hands and on his way to a lifetime of great experiences! God bless you all during this Christmas season.

I also was a very worried parent when my son was on his way to and while he was at Boot. After he graduated boot and we met his training PO's we were very greatly relieved and proud once again.

IMO and based on my experience the folks at Great Lakes all took great care of our ALL of our sons needs, both physical and mental.

My son has grown into a man.
