I would like to get station names and approximate travel time from the airport to the RTC. I am flying in around 1100 am on 10/15/09. Thanks in advance for your help....an anxious Dad

We were there last April and my check on the Chiccago Transit System revealed that there was not at all like D.C. or New York.
If it was me I would call the Chicago Airport System customer service hotline at 1-773-686-2200. They could help you with public transportation from the Airport to Recruit Training Command. I do not believe there is any direct route between O’Hare and The Naval Station.
Where are you staying? The train station at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center is not really near anything. It is near the Main Gates of the Recruit Training Command and Naval Training Center. The motels are not easy walking distance from the train station.
Could you ask your sailor's recruiter for a Morale Welfare and Recreation contact at Great Lake Naval Station, maybe they could help? Here is their website: http://www.mwrgl.com//default.htm
Thanks guys...I found detailed directions by calling Metra. For those wondering ....Take people mover at O Hare to LOT E. Walk to LOT F. Go in train station up to platform to train to Union Station. Transfer to Union Station . At Union Go to North Concourse (tracks 5,7,9,11) Go out lobby to Madison Walk to stairs to Madison Ave. Look for big Blue Glass Building (Ogilivie Station) Up to UP-N up escalator. Go to Union Pacific North. Take train to Great Lakes station. It wii be about $3 for the first 30 minute leg and $5 for the one hour second leg. I will update this when I get back from a 10/16 PIR with my own version.
Rent a car or take a airport shuttle to GL!........Taking the Metra.....will take way tooooo....long!!!!!
If U don't have a really great book and lots of time to KILL!!!!.....Don't take the Metra!.....The route from GL and Ogilvie Station!.........is 4E!!!!!!
