Navy Dads

My son started bootcamp on Sept. 15th .I am just looking for some useful tips on the PIR on Nov. 6th . I have booked a room already. I am looking for tips on getting there(in the gates) and what to expect. What can I do with my son after the PIR. Are there things to do locally ?

first thing to do is to leave early for pir,we were there at 6;20am and had a hour wait.when you get to the gates security checks will be coducted on you and your vehicle will be checked.thing to do six flags is near by and also the gurnee mills mall.i expect it to be to cold for six flags.after pir it all depends if your son is grad and go or if his a school is in great lakes.my daughter was a grad n go but her school is in great lakes.she had liberty all weekend and was able to stay with us at the motel.check with your son he will know what his next duty will be. my daughter pir was on 9-2-09 and it was something to see.if you have any more questions let me know.
Thanks Kevin, I am not sure what happens next for my son after the PIR. If all goes well he will go to PreBUDS. I think he stays there for that. He has been there for almost 3 weeks and no word yet from him. This is the hardest part of it . Just not knowing. I do appreciate your advice. Alex

the best thing to do is to read through the past posts in the PIR and Bootcamp groups. There are tons of posts there from others that have been down this road before. Get there early-- enjoy-- and remember NO PHOTOS OUTSIDE ANYWHERE on base
