Hello everyone,
I am new to this board.
My son went to RTC on 16JAN.
I am currently working in Afghanistan and received an email from my wife saying she was contacted by my sons recruiter and he told her our boy was in Division 918 and assigned a ship already.
The recruiter said being in Division 918 was an honor and it was for sailors who are excelling in RTC.
Just looking for confirmation and any other dads whose child is assigned to FFG-57.
Frank

RTC is divided into a number of "ships", each holding a number of divisions. The idea is to install a sense of shipmate and teamwork as they go through their training. These ships DO NOT correspond to ships they may be assigned to in the fleet. The ship names at RTC are:
Ship 03 USS Hopper 3600 Ohio Street 60088-3156
Ship 04 USS Arleigh Burke 3600 Ohio Street 60088-7103
Ship 05 USS Theodore Roosevelt 3610 Illinois Street 60088-3118
Ship 06 USS Constitution 3510 Illinois Street 60088-3119
Ship 07 USS Chicago 3405 Sailor Drive 60088-3401
Ship 09 USS John F. Kennedy 3415 Sailor Drive 60088-3515
Ship 10 USS Enterprise 3425 Sailor Drive 60088-3525
Ship 11 USS Kearsarge 3505 Sailor Drive 60088-3505
Ship 12 USS Triton 3515 Sailor Drive 60088-3515
Ship 13 USS Marvin Shields 3420 Sailor Drive 60088-3520
Ship 14 USS Arizona 3410 Sailor Drive 60088-3510
Ship 17 USS Mason 2705 Kansas Street 60088-3140
and "900" series divisions are performing divisions (flags, band, choir, honor guard, etc.)
Frank,
Here is your info...
There are 14 different "ships" (barracks), and about 12 divisions in each ship, and every one of them has a different address.
The only difference between them is the 900 and 800 division. The 900 divisions are performance divisions...singers, musicians, flag carriers and the 800's divisions...special ops, seals, etc
Ship 2 contains ONLY 900 divisions. It contains all of the music practice rooms and instruments. One division per PIR group lives here. Ship 4 contains only SpecOps guys.
When a group of new arrivals comes in from the airport, they go through a simple sort - those with music or flag/drill experience are shunted off to a 900 division, those going into SpecOps are sent to the 800 division (they only do a dozen or so each year).
The remaining recruits are assigned pretty randomly, mostly as they arrive. Once one is full, the start filling another, so divisions end up with groups of recruits from only a few areas.
Sometimes a division fills, and there are only one or two recruits remaining from the arrival group. They are held as the first recruits for the next division.
That's how random it can be.
That is also how divisions are assigned to ships. There are 12 barracks per ship. They fill a ship with divisions as they arrive, and when full, move to the next ship. The ships are not filled in order, because they were not built in order. The last of the new barracks was completed only 1 year ago.
Thanks for the info!
