My son is in the DEP and is scheduled to ship out to GL on the 19th of June and from there he is going to Pensacola for A school to become an AD. Any Advice? Will he get any leave after A school?

My son also ships out to GL on June 19th. His A School will be in Great Lakes.
That time is arriving quickly. Starting to get a little anxious about it.
My son's PIR in Great Lakes was on Feb 8. They flew him from Chicago to Pensacola on February 9. He waited there for nearly 2 months. Then at 1730 hrs on Sunday March 31, they posted a roster with his name on it for classes starting the following morning on April 1. He is an ABH and has a 5-6 week class. He has been told that once he finishes A-school, he will have anywhere from 5 to 14 days liberty.

We live 6 hours from Pensacola, so I have made several trips in the past 2 months to see him. Once he is classified 'Phase 3' (within the first couple of weeks at A-school) he can leave base over night on weekends and travel up to 350 miles from base. My son and I took a camping trip with friends 2 weeks ago.

My son's class filled out their 'dream sheets' the first day of class on Monday last week. He was notified yesterday that he will be stationed on the USS George Washington (Japan). But, expects to get his orders in the last week of class telling him exactly when and how to report to the GW. But, based on what he was told, expects to get several days of liberty at home before going.

Thank you Jim for the information, this helps alot when I try to explain what happens after PIR to his Mother, she is not onboard with his dicision to join the Navy. Again thank you and your son for his service to our Country
