Navy Dads

Our son just finished his third week.  I have read where some have received their call after the third week and others after the fourth week.  Do most come at the half-way point (4 weeks)/  We are anxious to hear from him.

Thanks,

Andy

By policy you are entitled to two calls: "I'm here" when he arrives at RTC and "I'm a Sailor Now" at the conclusion of BS21.  USUALLY you will also receive a "I'm still alive" call around week 3 or 4.  Calls are earned and are lost as a division and are always at the discretion of the RDCs.  Sometimes you'll get more and sometimes less.............my advice- hope for the call, but do not count on it.

We got a call form our Sailor yesterday morning. Got ten minutes. He is starting his 3rd week.

We got our first call yesterday after 5 weeks in bootcamp

To Mark & Jaimie,
What did the caller ID say & was it a collect call?
My daughter starts her 3rd week today. I think yesterday would've been her 1st holiday schedule

Hey and good morning, everyone. Praise God, we got the call last night. What a joy it was to hear his voice. He informed us that his division is a push division. They have been extremely busy and schedule is booked and hectic.  He called from an 847 area code.  He went to boot camp on June 7th and will graduate on July 29th.  Hang in there to you guys who are waiting on a call.  From what I hear, "No news is good news."

You hear correct!  If you get no news assume all is on track....

Hi...Always go by no news is good news. August 1st, it will be 4 years my son has been in and right now he is currently on his 2nd deployment. His ARG is engaged in Operation Inherent Resolve....so they always can't communicate for security reasons. His group left 4.5 months ago and I've only have gotten 2 emails and 1 phone call back on Memorial Day weekend which surprised the hell out of me! He told me before he left to always send emails..he said he gets them ....its just he will not be able to respond to them all the time. So, I send him about 2 emails a week...even though he doesn't reply back. Trust me..wish I could speak to him everyday! Use your boot camp experience as practice for yourself...it will get you ready for any deployment situations as far as communications go down the road with your Sailor!!

My Son, in Division 274, called us at the end of his second week. I assume there was downtime and their Instructors told them as long as there's time call "Call your Folks".  It was a good call, shortened only because others wanted to use the phone too.

Chris;  My cellphone read No. Chicago. And no it was not a collect call.

Wife said it was Waukegan. Not collect and we didn't send a calling card with him so I'm guessing free long distance calls.
We did get a call from our daughter today. She is doing great & said she isn't having any trouble.
She was a little emotional when I 1st answered but then she got it together and we had a great conversation. I had her on speaker phone so my wife & I were both able to talk to her.
I also know we don't have a letter on the way since she said "I'm not good at writing letters so I haven't written one yet". Figures. Lol! I guess if she's not texting then she doesn't know how to write!!! But she did say she's getting my letters and those helped. I'm wondering what the delay time on the mail is? I googled it & it said 4 days from Chicago to Austin so there must be a big delay in processing there on base.

5 weeks to go! Stay strong.
