Hi - not scheduled for this date, however, my sailor is in THU and will hopefully be released for A school this week. I would like to offer a few helpful things for you. Lodging- we have made two trips here to see our sailor; one for adopt a sailor at Thanksgiving, and another for liberty. We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Lakehurst Rd. Only 8 minutes to RTC. Lots of things nearby; Wal Mart, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, Chili's, etc, all within walking distance. (while writing this we are snow bound with snow and sub zero temperatures, but the roads are fairly clear and drivable). Also, only 5 miles away are a huge shopping mall, Gurnee Mills, with a movie theater (very handy). We had stayed at a Ramada Inn on Green Bay Drive (I think) in November but I do not recommend it. If driving up from the south, take I-294 around Chicago- driving directly through it is unpredictable (traffic can be slow). Beware of $1.50 toll road charges. We paid $6 total to get to our destination at the Holiday Inn Express.

Any questions on anything else, please ask. Hope all goes well with your SR. It is a beautiful thing to see our young men and women and their families here in Great Lakes!

Yes, our son graduates on the 17th, ship 04, div 806.

Thank you very much!

Nice, we will have a few of us there. I'm just hoping the weather settles down so we can get in on time. We have all flights and room reservations set just need to make the jump from Phoenix to Chicago...yikes 72 to -40 in three hours. I'm not going to look all that spiffy for this. It's work boots and Carharts no option other than freezing.

We just had an hour long phone call from our son he is in division 805. I put him on speaker so everyone could talk to him, he sounds really good and said he is done with everything but Battle Stations. He ordered his first pizza since boot camp and he ate it all!  Cant wait to receive our last call stating the he has completed everything and is officially a Sailor!!!

Friday's forecast:  17 degrees and cloudy- weather widget in our PIR group for updates

We are coming from Phoenix as well.  Daughter is in DIV 061 and can't wait to see the PIR.

My son mentioned 061 and 062 are sister divisions that's pretty cool. Still no phone call yet. We're getting pretty nervous not knowing anything.

Hey above zero! Not bad.

no phone call here either.

Interesting, I wonder what is going on. He also mentioned we would be getting a graduation packet two weeks before when he made the "I got here ok" call. Haven't seen anything like that yet either.

I read up on the RTC Naval site and it appears no call is a good thing.  The SR's will only 100% call if they are going to have the PIR date moved due to medical or something of those sorts.  Then they would call again once they can confirm the new date.  So, all appears on track at this point.

There is a meet and greet Thursday night.  It is put on by a local taxi service and appears to be a well attended event.  All free of charge, but they do ask for donations.
