Looks like I need to check flights into Milwaukee.
As an airline/aviation guy I can vouch that Mitchell Airport (KMKE) in Milwaukee is a typically a great airport to fly through, they also have some neat mini aviation museum in the airport.
JUST GOT A PHONE CALL, Ship 11 Div 395. I guess they wound up with some down time and hadn't gotten in trouble so their PO marched them to the phone ban to use their calling cards. To get a random call during training is VERY unusual, and when you do they typically aren't good. This was simply a random call. I consider myself VERY lucky. My wife had her phone off and I don't typically answer mine when I get numbers I don't recognize like Waukegan, IL...who the heck would be calling me from there, right in the middle of my football game no less. (DUH!)
I heard his voice and was elated of course. He says his division is doing well, they all seem to be getting along pretty well. Hopefully that lasts, if everyone gets along it makes the whole thing go a lot faster and the unit coheres better and is usually a lot more successful in the various stages, resulting in more privileges...awesome.
He says due to his JROTC and weapons experience he is the weapons PO during watch, but that he was unable to make PF0 due to a strained neck (not sure how that happened).
Anyway, it was a great 5 minute call. I even managed to make a few calls to find ppl in the vicinity of the wife to turn her phone on and I think she may have gotten a call. I sure hope so, it would've made here day. Anyway, I hope others were also so fortunate. If you are monitoring this page, turn your phones on, just in case.
Just got a call from our son Ian, (Div 398 Ship 12). He sounded great, very upbeat, and very confident. According to him the food is good, and the treatment of the sailors is not as "bad" as it is portrayed in the movies. He said that he has received our letters and will have some in the mail back to us Monday. He said that his division had not been allowed to mail letters or call until now (first outgoing mail should be Sunday). Hopefully the rest of you hear from your Sailors as well!
See you at PIR! Bravo zulu!
call from div 397 ship 12.. my son dylan.. sounded great.. said all the same things your sr's did.. his mother got to talk to him the most.. which means that house is happy again, 5 weeks to go to pir
Also heard from my son Saturday afternoon, what a awesome surprise! He sounded great, said it was not as hard as he thought and was actually sleeping well( rare for my son). One small set back, he had a blister on his foot from the new shoes so his swim test is delayed and he missed the first physical test because he was at medical, but he was informed he will make up the test this week. I could here more confidence in his voice and his excitement about the whole experience. It was real good to hear from him and learn he has gotten all our letters which has kept his spirits so high. Can't wait for PIR and see the transformation from a boy to a man.
I was glad to hear so many people received calls, although it would be great to see a lot more people on this website. I'm going to mention the website to my son in my next letter and tell him to mention it to his friends, so they can inform their parents. If we all do that, between the different ships and divisions we may see a pretty big increase in numbers at the Sarge's event.
We received our call Saturday also. Our daughter was able call my wife and her brother. Unfortunately I was working and traveling through part of eastern Co that had terrible service and call dropped the three times she tried calling me. Better luck next time. Important thing is she is doing well although a little homesick.
Hi all, just found this website, we received my son call on Saturday, it was so nice to here his voice and I have to say he sounded so mature. At least he said Dad it really is that bad, but just can't wait till 10/18 graduation. Mom did get the most of the time to talk which really helped on the home front. Said he may be able to call this coming weekend again which will be nice as we will be with his sisters. Any way he is in Ship 12 Division 397, we are planning on being at Sarges the night before so hope so see all of you their.
Mail call at our house yesterday! I counted 14 (FOURTEEN) letters from our son (which probably brings his lifetime total of letters written to 14). Hopefully everyone else is getting letters as well.
He said that he was one of 70 SRs in his division who had to have his wisdom teeth removed (better than on my Delta dental dime I guess). Biggest thing he asked for is news (he knew nothing of the potential conflict with Syria).
