PIR 30 December, 2009 "Navy Boot Camp Graduation"

It appears that there will be lots of us at Great Lakes on this date, God willing. I've read lots and lots of great tips for the graduation from this site and Navy4Moms... Maybe we can keep each other advised as we move forward. My son, David is in Ship 09, Div 038. I understand that PT starts today and swim test is tomorrow. God bless them all.

Boy how I can relate to what you said about how hard this has been on you. Sean is my only son also (he has a sister and 3 stepsisters). I know this has been a lot harder on me then his mom. for the last 14 years Sean and his sister have been doing the every other weekend and summer thing with me (the good thing however has been that I have only lived about 5 miles from them) I however have been very close to Sean and still miss him daily. It's great to hear from him and get letters and I know that he has made to correct decision but sure do miss him.

All,

I had a great weekend. Actually I was a little under the weather, but I've got to tell you that getting to speak with David on Friday was just what I needed. It's funny because as the time drew near for David to leave for boot camp I was worried about how my wife would handle it- David's our only son (although I have an older son from a previous marriage). As it turns out, I've been the one to have a hard time with this. I tried to analyze it a week or so ago and I think it's because for so many years I've had to be a parent twenty four hours a day- and now, in the space of one day in late October, that all changed. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with David's decision, I am and have always been a die hard patriot, but since he's left for the Navy, it's been harder on me than I thought it would.

I stayed home sick on Friday which is something that I rarely ever do. At about 10 am the mailman came by and we got a letter from David. Just one page but, I was so happy that I was home when it came. Then at 5:30 he called us. The strange thing is- that had I not been home, my wife and I would have not been able to talk to him together. Strange how things work out sometimes.

In his voice and in his enthusiasm I felt comfort in knowing that he's done the right thing. I can't express to you how good that made me feel. Here's to all of our young sons and daughters that have made such a valiant and courageous decision to not only take a turn at watching over our country but also to leave home and take a step toward becoming men and women and to chart their own course.

Hey Mark, my son also told his girlfriend about the reduction of graduation spots for each recruit. I asked a couple of our groups on navy4moms and no one had heard anything about this. Some of them specifically asked their recruits about it when they called this weekend and no one had told them that. I'm wondering if it is just division 38 for some reason???
I just got an e-mail back from the public affairs office and they confirmed that all recruits are allowed 4 guests. I wonder if they messed up bigtime and were told if they didn't shape up they would have to cut the guest list?
Hi,

My Step son is Ship 09 Dv 038 - he too was told he'd had the number of tickets reduced from 4 to 3 for the same reason and the public affairs office denied all knowledge also. ...anyone else heard this ?

Michelle,

I think the threat for messing up is being set back or Intensive Training - not you'll graduate but some of your folks won't be able to watch. This seems a very bizarre incident.

Michelle / David,
I too am a little dubious about being reduced to three guests. By now there are lots of us who have already made plans and reservations to come. I think that an immediate notification would have been made much earlier than now. Let's hope we can all get in! Good luck to All!

Mark,

Unfortunately it appears to be true. We got a letter from Andrew today confirming that he'd had to cut down the number of guests on the access list from four to three. Since pointing the public affairs office at this website to prove that more than one parent had reported hearing this and therefore was likely true ( they had been denying it), they have simply stopped responding to my e-mails.

Frankly I'm unimpressed. The Navy are supposed to be teaching our kids the core values of honor etc, but don't want to follow through on their own stated commitments (from the website: each graduate is guaranteed 4 seats). More worrying than that..the problem is allegedly more guests than seats for the number of grads and they were apparently unaware of a problem before week 6. This is logistics 101 and they failed it...not a good sign

I also got this response from the PAO: "Four personnel are allowed per recruit". That's what I'm going on.

folks...I have edit and delete some of these discussions that have personnel info psoted...they didn't bother to tell me yesterday:

I received the following response this morning (Thursday) from the PAO at RTC:

The seating is four and has always been four. I cannot control what recruits want to tell there parents.
from Dave:
Paul, I appreciate the effort and on the surface it seems ridiculous, but 3 people from the same division have reported the same thing (independently) and my step son is absolutely torn up about the whole thing as it means one of his step parents does not get to go, which has caused a huge rift and means graduation will not be pleasant. I'm not sure what he could have to gain from this.....Presumably, on the day we'll get to see the list and then we'll know for sure.

could also be a way to motivate a division that is not coming together very well.......I wouldn't tend towards the "conspiracy" theory......
