Great Lakes Lodging Guide is in the PIR Group

There is Navy Lodge about 1.5 miles from the base...I stayed there in March for my daughter's PIR...It's clean, cheap and close to the base. I could have walked to the graduation but it was about 20 degrees out.

good luck

the Residence Inn on Waukegan road is nice and gave a discount to PIR parents

Thank you all for the great info.

I agree w/ John on the Residence Inn. Stayed there twice - PIR and A School grad. Was perfect both times. Short cab shuttle for ~$3/head so you don't have to deal with parking/searches etc. Reasonable with very nice rooms. Can't speak for anywhere else since that is the only place I stayed when over there.

not endorsing anything here, but I've seen more positive comments regarding the Residence Inn than any other place of lodging in the area...

The Day's is the best place and it is 1 mile from the base, My son also has his PIR on 09/01 Ship 7 Div 290. Let me know if I can help you in anyway.

I've read all reviews and the Residence Inn seems to be the favorite.  I am just wondering how booked up it will be.  My son graduates 9/23.  I am hesitant to book until I am absolutely sure he is going to graduate that day.  I am wondering if there is a known percentage of recruits who do not graduate for whatever reason on their assigned day.....

My son PIR 4 month ago and we had a really great time, we stayed 6 day, came in on Wednesday left on Monday, it was worth it. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn, by Marriott, 6090 Gurnee Mills cir E, Gurnee, Ill 60031, about 4 miles from the base. The hotel was new, clean, priced right, and had a great breakfast buffet. There were a lot of navy parent staying there. You'll have a great time and be very proud; the PIR is a very exciting, proud, fun, moment. I wouldn't have missed it. Get there by 6am, sit in from of his class number.

All my best, and God Bless,

Thank you very much. Was your son a grad and go? or did he stay at Great Lakes?

He was stationed there for 2 months after PIR so we got to spend 3 days with him, though we brought his girlfriend, so he spent more time with her and some of the guys from his class, then with use, but what was new about that. We had a great time, we got to hear storys about boot camp from him and his buddy. It was a lot of fun. all my best, God Bless.
