Navy Dads

Trying to plan our trip to my son's PIR. Since it's slightly possible the date can shift, I understand we need to be able to change the flight dates. But I have a question for how long of a trip we should plan. My son is signed up in the S-PACT program. Not finding much info so not sure how long we should plan to stay in the area. Any suggestions on how to plan this? Thanks in advance!!

It is not uncommon for SRs to go into boot "Undesignated". Here is the link to the Navy S-PACT program: http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/Graphic-Elements/Rating-Factsheets/SN-Prof...

Every potential NavyDad has faced this music of future planning for PIR which may have caused a little bit of stress. It's highly recommended that you purchase a "refundable" airline ticket just in case graduation is disrupted. In other words, just in case your Sailor Recruit does not graduate with his division for whatever reason. So as far as deciding which type of ticket to purchase it's almost really a catch-22 to some degree. Most of us opted to take that leap of faith and purchased the 'graduating on time ticket' as the price difference may cause instant sticker shock! In general, about 99.9 percent of the time graduation happens every Friday of every week unless otherwise specified and no graduting training group division will be held back: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp

As far as how many days to stay in GL after PIR, you'll have a better handle on this according to what Joseph tells you.

My advise is to keep writing to your SR and look out for a phone call as you never know when you may get one. From his letters to you, and phone call(s) in between if any, you will have a better idea as to how to handle your graduation travel plans accordingly.

Always remember no news is good news! Keep the faith and hang in there.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the information. This site and you guys are so helpful. So many unknowns.. I got a phone call Saturday and we talked for quite a while. He's not sure what's going to be next yet. He said his Div hasn't earned mail privilege yet though. Joseph encountered an issue with his blood pressure at the start of PT but says he's fine now and didn't miss anything. I guess it's always something.

He's also a bit out off center with the PACT program since he came in at a different grade so it's a bit confusing. We'll just hope for the best and keep our ears open. We're so tuned in our home phone now rings on both our cell phones too. Sure don't want to miss a call now...lol

Good to hear you got a phone call! Keep us posted Steve and hang tight.. Seems like forever but next thing you know PIR is right around the corner...

ps. here's more info on S-PACT on our site I was too quick to refer to a PDF file heheh.. http://www.navydads.com/forum/topics/s-pact-surface-seaman-professi...
