Navy Dads

I heard that there is a possibility that after A school my son could be sent home to work with the recruiter before his fist duty assignment, is that true? Anyone know about this?

After A school you are given leave, amount of that is dependent on where and what your next duty station will be. The Navy has a program that you can do during that leave where you "work" with a local recruiter and for doing this you will not be charged leave for those days. If your son plans on going home while on leave and does not want to use up as much of his leave then he can do this. What the recruiters have him do is entirely dependent on them. When I did it I only went there a few days and drove around with one of them to a few places to be the "hey, look at me I just joined the Navy from high school and you can to" guy. I have heard of some people who did it and showed up to the recruiters office the first day and they signed their papers and told them have fun and not worry about showing up.

jeremy mcelroy is spot on! My son took up this oppty back then and he got to bank some leave time! To my recollection this program is strictly voluntary and is really more of a show and tell if anything. It's a great marketing tool for the Navy!

Our recruiter actually made them come in and work. He did let them get off early but they had to show up and do some work in the office. Also based on his statement, this works for a maximum of 5 days, and it takes  a while to get the confirmation back once the recruiter signs off on it, so you actually not charged for the 5 days vacation, because you were at the recruiters office. Other than that it's like Gary said. Great marketing... .
