Navy Dads

My Daughter has a dream. Follow in the footsteps of her Great Grandfather who served in the Pacific during WWII.

Fresh out of high school she ran to her local recruiter. She took her ASVAB "scored quite well" she did all the paperwork, got all her medical records to the recruiter and excitedly waited for that phone call to head off to MEPPS that was in May she is still waiting. she contacts her recruiter twice a week and has heard every story the recruiter can think of. from her paperwork was misplaced then magically appeared in a desk drawer to the government shut down put things on hold. Is this normal ? how long should this process take ? She is trying to stay positive but you can imagine the frustration she is feeling.  any advice would be helpful.

you need to talk to a different recruiter.....this was psotsed by a former Navy Chief in regards to something else, but the advice still holds:

To all who are having problems getting their childrens' recruiter to forward the ship/div info - IF the recruiter in charge does not handle it, you need to ask for the Zone Supervisor, if nothing happens there, the next one you should ask and speak to is the Assistant Chief Recruiter, then the Chief Recruiter. IF all that fails, then my next step would be to contact the Commanding Officer. I would wait no more than 1-2 days between contacts (ZS, ACR, CR).
I can tell you that the last thing a recruiter wants (or needs) is negative attention.

If for some reason you have a hard time locating the Commanding Officer's contact information, you should be able to type in your area and "navy recruiting" and should find the homepage for the NRD you are in.

It's clear that your recruiter is not doing anything to help.....and keep us informed as to what is going on.....

the commanding officer at her closest recruiting office says her paperwork has all been sent to MEPS months ago. she has been to 3 other recruiting offices in our area and has even called offices in Utah and Phoenix Arizona to see if going to them would help expedite things. from what we understand its in MEPS hands now but that was 2-3 months ago. her local recruiting office commander said the put in an expedite order but tells her every week there is no news.  very confusing

call your Congressman/Senator !!!! Seriously !!!!

Sigh.. I will try that.  Thank you for taking the time to help :)

Jerry...with the economy being what it is...the military is inundated with people that want to sign up. All of the military branches have stacks of requests. Five months + for a female recruit is way out of the norm. I would advise going to a different recruiter...or even a different branch of service...
