My son Noah is with Ship 2, Division 904? Anyone out there with an SR in this same ship/division?  Are you heading to Great Lakes to attend 12/5 PIR?  Hoping to meet other parents at Sarge's Meet-n-Greet.

Hi Mike, yeah hard to believe they only have a week left! We hope to talk to Doug tomorrow, a Great Aunt & Uncle are in the Chicago area to celebrate Thanksgiving with their son & his wife, so they are getting Doug (adopt a sailor) for part of the day. Very excited to talk to him! That's great that you saw Noah again at the PIR Ceremony. I am looking forward to meeting you & Noah as well next week. I hope you & your family have a great Thanksgiving too!

That's great that Doug will get to celebrate with some family.  He'll actually get to see what it looks like off-base. Counting down the days...hopefully make it to Sarge's meet-n-greet. I haven't seen the Dec schedule on his site yet so I'll check again on Monday. Have a great and hopefully long 4 day weekend!

Hey Jay...Happy Friday.  Hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving and hope Doug enjoyed his visit off-base with family.  I assume you got a chance to chat with him and I hope all is well.  Noah and 200 other SRs got treated to a meal as well as enjoyed some free time to watch some NFL football, gaming and computer access. To my surprise, Noah called about 5 times throughout the day...what a Thanksgiving to get multiple calls, a great dinner with family and the Seahawks domination of the 49ers.  What more could I have wanted eh?  Noah did ask if you and I had talked about having dinner or something of the like after PIR.  I guess he and Doug have talked about it.  Not sure if you and your family already have plans but I'm open so we can chat prior or chat when we meet up at the Meet-n-Greet or PIR.  Also, checkout Sarge's calendar for the Meet-n-Greet. He has it updated so you can now reply (assuming your family is attending).  Cheers for now!

Hi Mike, we had a great Thanksgiving, talked and face timed with Doug a few times throughout the day. He got to visit with his brothers, both sets of grandparents, along with some of his aunts, uncles & cousins too. He was able to bring his bunk-mate along for the day, so we were able to 'meet' him on face time which was cool. The first thing the boys wanted to do when they were picked up was get a coffee from Starbucks, we forget about all of the simple things everyone in the military gives up. Doug looks and sounds great, he has lost 15 pounds in BC, so he said his pants are getting really loose and he's having trouble keeping them up. Hopefully Thanksgiving Day helped a little bit with that problem. Yes, we would be happy to go out with you guys after the PIR. WE are up for anything the boys would want to do. I had mentioned to Doug that maybe we should try some Chicago style pizza and he thought that sounded good because he is craving pizza, but we will let the boys decide on that. I think I remember that you said you were staying at the Navy Lodge, is that correct? That is where we are staying. Well, just a few days left now. Sounds like the weather forecast is good for traveling next week also. Looking forward to getting their phone call after Battle Stations in a couple days!

How awesome for your entire Ohana (family) to visit with Doug on Thanksgiving Day!  Very cool and certainly lots for everyone to be thankful for...sounds like a great mini-family reunion especially when both sets of grandparents can be present!  Good stuff!  Good point about the little things taken for granted... too funny with the Starbucks coffee.  Saying a Prayer for the boys and the entire Div904 that they are able to pull it together as a team with Battle Stations and come out with flying colors! We are staying at the Navy Lodge and will probably not be there until after Sarge's Meet-n-Greet on Thurs eve. Crossing my fingers on the weather for all traveling. I just upgraded my rental car to an SUV...just in case :)   Here in Olympia, WA we just got our first snow in the lowlands.  I'm looking forward to meeting you all and yes, I'm game for whatever the boys want to do post PIR.  It'll be great to just sit back and soak in what changes have come about in this past 8 weeks. Good stuff...and filled with pride!

Hey there Jay.  Noah called around 11am PST and sounded in great spirits but his voice sounded like it should after being up since Monday 5am.  Congrats to all of DIV904 for making it through Battle Stations and now I can't wait to see them all at PIR in 3 days!  Hope you and your family heard from Doug as well.  Good stuff for these young "men"!  Good stuff in deed!

Hi Mike,
Yes, congratulations to all in Division 904 & the rest of the graduating Divisions! Best of luck to them wherever their Navy career takes them. We talked to Doug, he sounded good, albeit quite tired. He was looking forward to some Taco Bell! I am getting excited to talk to you in person at the Meet-n-Greet, along with attending the PIR and spending some time with our sons. I'm a very proud Dad like you! Safe travels, and see you in a couple days.

Well said Jay...well said!  Couldn't have summed it up any better...and right back atchya...look forward to shaking hands with you and congratulating Doug in person.  Hope your drive isn't too bad heading east...safe travels Jay...see you in two days at Sarge's Meet-n-Greet.

First, thank you to all the admins of this great site. First, it allowed me to meet a new friend and family. If you read this trail, you will see how Jay and I made this 8 week journey together finding out early on that our sons became friends while in DIV904...and so it naturally happened that their dads became friends as well. Our sons just graduated yesterday (PIR 12/5/14) and our families spent part of post PIR together at dinner celebrating.  Today, we hung out at O'Hare airport (7am-2:30pm) as our sons were heading to SA, Texas. I just wanted to close this out by saying "mahalo" (thanks) to the website administrators for creating this bridge that creates possibilities for dads like Jay and me and out of it new friendships and support have been made for a long time to come.  A special mahalo to Sarge!  I am sooooooo sooooooo glad that I attended the Meet-n-Greet. The event itself was inspirational...but "they" (Sarge and his wife) are even more inspirational and he gives hope that there are such giving people left in this world.  Mahalo Sarge! I know I will be on this site in the future to provide insight and encouragement to dads who will be going through what I did.  Aloha to you all who dedicate your time to helping us dads through this transition...truly appreciated!

It's our pleasure Mike and am glad that the site was useful for you over the past weeks.  We hope you continue to use this resource during the remainder of your Navy journey.....and after being in Hawaii in Sept it's nice to see mahalo in use.....I got pretty used to that and have missed it since landing back on the mainland.

Right on Paul...gotta share the Aloha...and that's what I see you (and the rest of the admins...along with Sarge and his wife) doing for all of us dads dealing with transitions of our own.  As Arnold says "I'll be back"...and now looking forward to my sons A-school journey! You mention Hawaii so I will say, it is awesome to see these young Sailors of DIV904 at the airport creating an Ohana (family) of their own already. Good stuff!...so excited for all of their futures. God Bless.
