Navy Dads

My daughter arrived at RTC 9 June and was assigned to this division. Since I didn't see anything for this Ship/Div I thought I'd put something out there and see if anyone elses daughter was in the same division. If we get enough people maybe we can keep tabs on the group as they go through Boot.

A little about me. I have three daughters and all joined the military. My oldest is Air Force, Security Forces and is currently serving at Aviano AB in Italy. My middle daughter is Army Reserves, Military Police, and has a deployment coming up this fall. This is my youngest daughter and she just got to Boot and enlisted as an Intelligence Specialist.

So basically this isn't my first rodeo with BMT/Basic/Boot, but it is with the Navy. Interesting to see how different branches handle information coming out of basic training. The Air Force was pretty tight and we really had no information, pictures or anything unless something bad happened, which it did. She broke her foot during training and was in Med Hold for 8 weeks before she could continue her training. The Army on the other hand had a Facebook page for the company and posted pictures every week. Looks like the Navy might be a little tight with information also.

Well anyway, I hope someone shows up. If not...oh well. I wish all the SRs the best as they embark on their adventure.

We'll most likely go.
We got a call from Meghan René Manifold today from Navy Boot. She sounded great and is doing well. Her assigned job is "Division Smart Ass". It's her job when someone asks a stupid question, she must then provide a smart ass answer. That is soooo Meghan. Just like her daddy, brought a tear to my eye hearing that :) . Her PT scores were good, and her division is getting along great. 2 weeks down, 6 more to go.

Got another telephone call today from our son.  He is recovered from his stomach flu and back to his regular routine.  In good spirits.  Purpose of the call was to obtain addresses and telephone numbers of additional references for security clearance purposes.  As others have already stated, apparently some are slated for higher level clearances depending on their job (MOS?).  His is IT, so it must be one of those.  Regardless, it was great to hear from him on such a positive note.

Happy to hear your son is feeling better and back to training. Being sick sucks, being sick away from home sucks even worse.

We're hoping for some letters this week. Don't really expect any calls for another week or two, but letters would be nice. If it follows like my other two daughters week three is usually when mail start coming.

First letter received today (Thursday).  Not very long, but then this may be the first actual paper letter that our son has ever written, so wife and I were thrilled to get anything at all.  He says things are going well and that the food is actually pretty good at times.  He also said they had been very busy--not much "free" time at all.  He also said he had lots of stories to tell us when we come up for graduation.  So, a positive letter from our son--just what we needed!

Got another call from Jim my SR yesterday. He was being interviewed again for his security clearance, I answered the phone, he said Dad nobody is home and they (the navy interviewer) did not receive the documents you sent 2 weeks ago, they need them in an hour or I cant keep my rate. Now, I install gas pipe for a living, I was in a trench in the middle of a high way 20 mins from home. What do you do? I got home in time and managed to e-mail the person interviewing him, I sent an e-mail every 5 minutes until someone called and told me to stop. I sent 12 e-mails. He is doing fine, had blisters  from the new boots but are healing, has a head cold, and is home sick.

Oh my God! You Da man! I was laughing my ass off reading this....someone had to call to tell you to stop sending emails....that is hilarious!

So we get our first letter from our SR last night. It starts out..."Bad news...there isn't any ice cream or teddy bears at Navy Boot....but there is a cookie fairy." It seems that one of her "Shipmates" smuggled a cookie into her "unlocked drawer" and got caught. Problem apparently wasn't the cookie so much as the type of cookie. Her RDC indicated it was a "Crappy cinnamon or some shit cookie". So far sounds like she's having a blast. She indicated that her RDC's were pretty cool but one of her RDC's was an "Asshole...but in a good way". lol According to him only one more week until they are allowed to smile lol

Received another telephone call from our son this evening (Sunday).  Things are going well and he is in good spirits.  He has apparently been given some sort of assignment that if he completes it satisfactorily he will be able to bypass the first phase of A school with respect to restrictions on civilian clothing and weekend leave that is usually applied to the first month or so.  We may be headed to Pensacola for a visit sooner than we thought!  The Div must be doing well for him to be able to make these frequent calls, as he indicated he may be able to call again on Tuesday night.  We'll see.  Guys, I think Div 236 is doing well.

We got our call yesterday from Meghan also. I agree she tells us that 236 is doing great!

Hey guys, just wondering about the 4th of July.  Does anyone know what type of schedule they will be on for the holiday?  Or, will it just be another day?

they will get some down time (couple of hours) to write, take care of calls if they are granted that privilege, study, etc..
