Hi David

I'm new to Navy Dads.

My son is in this group Ship 2 Div 917 also.

We have been lucky and received 3 phone calls to date the last one was on Friday Jan 31st.

He sounds good and seems to be taking it all in stride. He is one of the older Recruits at 25.

He said there are some older than him the oldest being 39. My son landed a Choir position what did your Recruit get?

My son will be an AG rate and heading to Biloxi after PIR.

Hope your son/Daughter is doing well.

My daughter is also in the Choir. She will be an OS rate and staying in Great Lakes after PIR. The 31st is the last time I received a phone call also. I did get a letter last week. My wife seen on another site that because of the storm when they first got there, they are having to buckle down and we probably won't hear from them till after Battle Stations.

Will you be making the Graduation?

That's cool. Yes we will be attending graduation. We also are going to be attending the Sarges meet and greet on Thursday the sixth. Not sure if you've seen that opportunity.

We will be there also. As for Sarges meet and greet, we have heard about it. My wife is checking on it. I know we are suppose to let them now we are coming. We have already got our flight and car rental. Just haven't decided where we are going to stay yet.

On another Topic if your Daughter ends up as an Air Traffic Controller in the OS Rate, I have lots of information, and would be happy to share.

I am a retired FAA Air Traffic Controller (2010 Denver Tower).

That sounds great. Not sure what she will be doing right now.

Have you decided where you will be staying?

We are driving up. Staying at Residence Inn on White Oak Drive if you ask for the Graduation Rate it is $120 for a 1 Bedroom 2 Room Suite, Queen and sofa bed. You can find better Rates but we wanted a place to sit and get casual and talk, Also allow Recruit to relax. We have done this before with family members (Air Force) and if you get a room with just a bed and no place to sit and converse with your Sailor they will have to be in uniform in public areas if you want a place to just sit and talk.

I see. We are staying the whole weekend since she is not leaving for A school. So that is a good thought to consider. My wife was an Air Force spouse for 6 years. She says the Navy is nothing like the AF with the recruits.

Yes, son also in Ship 2 Div 917.   I think he's called just about every Sunday except this past weekend where he made his official "2nd Call" on Friday.

We got a letter today.  Said they are in "Hell Week". He said.... Weapons training, shooting simulator, live fire, drill inspection and their 2nd training guide test.  Very busy.  He said.... send me some news... any current events please.. So we printed out some current events and Olympic stats and send it out right away.  Told him to share with everyone before he threw them away. He also stated that if the group averages a 4.35 out of 5.0 on their test they will get an extra phone call!

3weeks to go!

I received a letter yesterday. She said hell week was. She also said that she was appointed to ship staff. Said it was a privilege. It would take up a lot more of her time though. She might not get to call as often and when she did call it would be shorter calls. She sounded really good though. Hope they all do great this week.
