We're down to the last 7 days before he ships out. At first his mother and I were very upset and disappointed that he didn't want to go to college and that he never talked much about military service. He has worked so hard in getting and maintaining his AIRR contract that now we could not be more proud of him! He and I have spent the last couple of months doing all the father-son trips(Yankee game in Toronto, Hockey HOF, Giant football, and NJ Devils home opener this weekend).
This Sunday is the family farewell with Grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We know he's very excited and nervous, but he also knows we are all behind him 100%. There haven't been any tears yet but I'm sure that may change come next Tuesday.
Thank you to all who have served and God bless to all who are serving and all who are about to serve.

My son shipped out on the 7th. It was the 2nd hardest day off my life. Next to my Father passing away. The 2-3 days after aren't very easy either. Got his box of stuff today....make sure someone is home to sign for it. Now im just waiting for his letter with his address and PIR date.
Dropped him off at the recruiter this afternoon, but we'll be there for the swearing in and the departure. We're starting to miss him already!
We were at MEPS in Brooklyn this morning and got to say goodbye as he boarded the bus to the airport. We expect the call around 11pm- midnight. The adventure begins!!!
He called around 9:30pm, sounded tired, nervous and scared. He said he'll call again in about 3 weeks. Now we wait for the box and then the letter. Already the suspense his killing us>
the days will go slowly but the weeks will fly by.......
We are hearing that the next TG doesn't ship in until November 4/5. We also hear that the December PIR schedule is December 5, 12 and 31, with no PIR scheduled for the 19th or 26th. That would put our son's PIR on the 12th or the 31st. We wondering if anybody has heard anything like that?
sounds about right for the holidays...........things get a little complicated around Christmas
We got the box yesterday afternoon, now we're just waiting on the letter!
Haven't got the letter yet but from what we are hearing it may be Ship 4, Division 803 (AIRR)
We got a call from him this morning about 11am from area code 847. He said his graduation is definitely 12/12, and that his division is 803. He also said he's starting to adjust to the Navy routine(making the rack, folding clothes, shining shoes, getting yelled at), the food's not bad and the PT isn't that intense yet.
My son is in A school now having just finished Boot camp and he too never talked of going to college prior to this. I was talking to him about boot and his experiences and he starts talking about what his plans are for the future...He wants to resume his language training and start to take college courses...Something that he never expressed prior to going in to the Military....I was so Proud to hear him express that desire and that coupled with the technical and real life experiences he will gain during his time in the military will truly serve him well. Good luck to your SR...time will fly and you will be at PIR before you know it.
