Navy Dads

The box came today. His address book got sent back. Guess I better send him the important ones with the next letter. I told him to write them down on a piece of paper and put it in his wallet, but I'm guessing he probably didn't.

How much longer before I can expect "the letter" with the mailing address?

The mail is backing up.

Usually when they are in week 3 - 4. I made credit card size paper card and laminated it with the most important info (addresses and phone #) on it so my son could carry it in his wallet and not worry about it getting wet, etc. Depending on your recruiter, he could give you the info on mailing address. Some will and some won't. Once you know what ship he is on, refer to the "Contact your sailor" listing on the right hand side on the Navy Dads site (it's on each page) for the exact mailing address and stick with that. Number your letters, they often don't get the first few until they've been in the routine for a few weeks.
Ron, my son's box arrived today, also ... well, not quite! FedEx called and told me it is at their facility; however, the address was misspelled ... go figure! I guess we get it tomorrow.

As for the address. My son shipped last Thursday. I was told to call the recruiter this afternoon and he would tell me the address. He told me if he didn't have it by this afternoon, he'd have it tomorrow at the latest. I have called and left a message. Like Otto said, you should try asking your son's recruiter, he should have the information.
Ron, FedEx returned and dropped off my son's box moments ago.

My son's name is Ian and, yes, he would have been at Great Lakes around the same time as your son. Ian called home around 10pm (Il time). I will pass on any information I receive from his recruiter ... he's a great guy! I'm not sure what other DEP experiences have been, but Ian's recruiting station kept on top of them with PT and studying the DEP manual. In fact, they had a DEP Olympics in this area last weekend and Ian's recruiting station won! Too bad he wasn't there to see it, but he'll find out when he gets his first letter.
Hi Ron.

We received "the letter" one week exactly after he left. I contacted his recruiter four days after he left and was able to get the address from him. Our recruiter accessed it through the Navy, where we could not, three days after he arrived at RTC. When we received "the letter", his address was a little different, it just added a little more info but basically our original one from the recruiter was correct.

We sent off eight letters that first day.

Good luck.
