Well, it was an emotional day for all. More for some of us than others...
After proudly watching Julia march in front of her unit (414) as a a flag bearer, I briefly had the thought of when I graduated way back in 1978 in the summertime in San Diego, we had about a dozen guys drop in the ceremony because they locked their legs standing at attention for so long. I was wondering if they had that problem here. But I quickly dismissed it because it was indoors and nice inside.
Then it happened....
At the end of the video of today's PIR, they make an announcement for the "guests of Seaman DiMascolo to meet at the doors for a special message"... the "special message" was that Julia dropped like a sack of potatoes before the official party arrived and was at Sick Bay recovering!
Bless her heart... she makes it all the way to the big day and misses it! Alas, all is well, she is fine- very embarrassed, but fine.
Regardless of that minor incident, I am so proud of my sailor daughter that words cannot possibly describe. Yes, she is a step-daughter by law, but she's been under my watch since she was 3, so we reckon some of that salt in my blood rubbed-off on her.
God bless her and our United States Navy!!!
HU-ZAAAAAAA!!!!

Yeah, I remember weaving around during a long inspection on the grinder in summer up there. 1970, hot & humid!
Congrats on your sailor's PIR!!!
