Navy Dads

Warn your recruits, rules are rules and must be followed.

Well we attended my son's Basic Training Graduation this past Friday and I was very impressed by the ceremony.  My son is an E3 out of basic and has his orders to the 7th fleet after A School.   He did ok in basic with the exception of getting ASMO'd for associating with a female recruit, and apparently it doesnt take much to have that happen.  Warn all sons and daughters entering basic these days to heed the warnings about fraternization with the opposite sex during basic training.  Rules are indeed rules and part of not following them is learning that there will be disciplanary consequences.

I understand the rules and such as a Navy veteran myself, but with the Navy Motto of Honor, Courage, Commitment" how does one "squeal on another recruit and manage to rank up for squealing while another is ASMO'd? Luckily my son is man enough to have moved past that and look to the future.  I wish him well!!!

Dale, what is an ASMO?  I am a 20 year Soldier and the Navy acronyms and rank is like learning a whole new language.  Thanks.
ASMO: ASsignment Memorandum Orders. Mostly issued in boot camp to set a recruit back in training due to poor performance....also issued for medical or dental issues.....

My SR appears to have been disqualified on a ASMO 2307. The best I can gather, a "2307" is a preexisting medical condition? The kid is a former high school football and baseball player, and is quite fit. I'd really like to know more...

Does anyone know if the "disqualification letter" will include detail on the medical condition? And is this a premature end to his Navy career or just a temporary setback?

There may not be any details in the letter due to privacy/HIPPA laws.  Check our Ship 5 group and pay attention to the HIPPA form he needs to sign- then you can legally speak with the doctors http://www.navydads.com/group/ship5formerlyship17

Thank you, Paul and Jim! Your help is greatly appreciated!  :-)

Paul, also take a look at the re-enlistment codes near the bottom of the mast head of the group. If it's a medical condition, it's possible to re-enlist with a waiver from the doctor.
