Navy Dads

My grandson is assigned to Ship 12, Division 220 and his PIR is July 08,2011. My Daughter, granddaughter and I are traveling to his PIR by car and was wondering if anyone has some advice where to stay during this time at a reasonable priced place (Not the Bates Motel or the Roach Palace). We would also like to know if it is better to drive or take a shuttle to the PIR.  If anyone also has loved ones who have a PIR on this date I would like to hear from you. Thanks!!! Ron Mayoral

shuttle.........
We stayed at the great lakes motel right there on the main street in front of the academy,  Took the shuttle.   A good place to stay... not a GREAT place, but a good place. Fair prices....  Bob

We Stayed at the Marriot. It is less than 20 minutes away and they provide shuttle service. I think it was ten dollars one-way. The hotel was very nice abpout $ 99 a night included a kitchen. Great for more than two people. If you rent a car from the O'hare airport it takes about 30 minutes to get to the hotel.

I really reccomend taking the shuttle to the graduation, as parking is crazy with very long waits, the shuttle gets you in and out fast. Plan on leaving your hotel about two hours early or you will wait in line and might not get to sit where you want i.e by his division. Also make reservations as early as you can. I covered multiple dates just in case the Graduation date changed and then cancelled them once I had the exact dates, except for the one I needed.

Hope you enjoy we did.. Mike and Suki

We stayed at the Sleep Inn in Lake Bluffs... It's only a few miles from RTC. The rooms were clean and the Full Moon Cafe across the street from the hotel is absolutely awesome... If you take your graduate there for lunch, you'll get free soup (or at least we did and it was delicious!).

There's shuttle service to RTC... but we drove. Easy to get to!

We did Sleep Inn also, 3 Years back already -- clean, reasonable price,  many PIR relatives and  also people visiting A school airmen in the advanced training programs at Great Lakes.

We stayed at The Homewood Suites in Linconshire and while kind of expensive they were VERY nice.  We had a 2 BR 2 Bath suite with King beds and it was around 150.00 a night.  It was only about 20 mins or so from the base and they also have a little welcome kit prepared for all families staying there for Navy Grads.
