Wisdom Teeth Before Boot Camp

How is your dental plan?   I would do a pro/con to help make the decision, with your sons input.  Yes you would save a few hundred dollars if you let the Navy do it.  After all, thousands of sailors have had it done in Navy boot.  It's not a huge risk.  And, it is likely done during P-week before they start hard training, he will have time to heal there.

My son had his wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago.  Just this past month enlisted (DEP) , ships to Boot in 6 months.  But in a day and a half, he was over it.  In my opinion, it would not have greatly affected him in a negative way if he had it done in Boot.

If you get it done ahead of time, he has time to heal and be observed in advance if there should be complications.

you'll probably have to submit a post-dental exam for evaluation by the recruiters.....

If he were to have it done before hand and something goes wrong...it could delay his entry into Boot Camp. Some of those wisdom tooth extractions don't always go smoothly. I won't bore you with the story we heard from one of our dads about a year or so ago.

Suffice it to say, not to do it before only because the recruiter said don't.

I had our sons removed 6 months prior to boot camp. If he's 18 or older, he's technically their property. But mine was still 17 and couldn't officially be held to a contract yet.
